KEN ERICKSON 1000+ posts giveaway

Congratulations on 1000 Ken! Maybe one day I will make that milestone myself.
I have admired your knives for a few years now and can't pass up a chance like this.
My wife snapped this photo while we were enjoying this fine spring weather here in Georgia. I am working on a ball-in-cage and I know the photo isn't that sharp, but the 1095 on my Tidioute Barlow Jack (That's what I call it anyway) stayed wicked sharp for the hour or so I had to whittle today.

I would so love to join this but there is NO way I'm posting my ugly mug shot on here. Secret identity is
BEST! :D

Good luck to all participants and congrats to you Ken on 1,000 post. That knife sure is a beauty!

Bill,
I find it strange you traded 11 months of winter and prickly pine trees growing in sand for 80 degree spring days and prickly cactus growing in sand!:D;)

Flymon,
Now that is great use of a slipjoint on a beautiful spring day, hope to see a picture when its finished.

Knife craized,
Thank you for the congrats on the post count. Too bad we wont see what you look like, but understand. The reason I wanted to see pictures of you guys is that I spend all my time in solitude in my shop and to connect faces with knives and posts makes my day brighter. On a sad side note, my thoughts and prayers are with your fellow West Virginians.

Alright Mr. Erickson,
I remembered this sign, way out 15 miles west of Blythe..... Once I saw your 1000th post give away, I decided to drive from Simi Valley to Wiley's Well Rd and visit the sign out in the desert to the secret K.E. sodbuster burial grounds.
PalmSprings2010143.jpg

We found no knives, and I guess the burial ground is not a secret anymore, sorry..... However, we did dig some geodes in the potato patch and saw a desert tortoise who took shade under the GMC while we dug. That is for another thread.

I also had to do a dorky CJ pose. Those are my specialty. I always wanted to rock hound and we got a chance to do so.

Sheeesh! I just realized, that as great as my BM 710 is.... it is not a slipjoint. I checked my photo bucket, and all my photos are either of me, kids, wife or knives, but not both. I guess I will have to hike tomorrow. Awww shucks, hikes are such a task..... LOL. I will solve that tomorrow, and edit my post. Until then, I love my stainless Case Dr. with stag..... It always accompanies me with my steak bbq, just not in this photo.

Congrats on your 1k post! I am definitely in for this one.

Ken, it's great for all of us to see these pics. and as a Canadian i appreciate not only the interesting 'mug shots' but also the lush vegetation and desert scenes. up here you forget that not everyone is living where current temps. are not hovering around freezing.

Thanks for the giveaway, Ken, I've always admired your work. Here I am in my bunny camo putting the stalk on a furry little critter! :D

Sorry for the gag, but I had to. My granddaughter was TOO cute over Easter! Here's the real me, using an Opinel #9 to peel back the plastic on some new solar lights for the front landscaping. (Check out those sexy, white legs! Winter was too long this year.)

Congrats on the 1000, and keep up the great work.

First off, congratulations Ken on your milestone and thank you for the opportunity!

Secondly, I don't think I have any recent photos with a slipjoint since I am usually the one taking photos and not in them. So, after getting back from church services today I posed for this one holding the Menefee trapper I had in my pocket everyday since I got it. I was also wearing my good duds so looking somewhat presentable for you.

Heres a picture of me digging "something" out of my sneaker from yours truly walking behind me. Thanks for the chance Ken. I would love to hold a custom in my hands. It's been years since Ive owned one.

Well done on the 1000 post mark. That is a nice looking knife, very unique. With all these giveaways in here I am going to have to stop lurking and start posting.

Here is one we took this morning. I have been trying out some whittling but I couldn't say I was very good at it. I think I'll stick to the knife making :) The knife there is the first slipjoint I ever made. I have made a few more that I intended to be my every day knife but I keep coming back to my first one.

Excellent prize Ken. Thanks for the chance to win, and thanks for your contribution to the forum. Your knifemaking skills are outstanding.

Had to get a neighborhood kid to get this mug shot. I'm holding the Western 062 in a very unnatural pose. At least that flowering tree has a scenic look to it.

I'm thinking of adding my ugle mug but boy I don't want you fellers to know what a true hillbilly girl from WV looks like. ;) :D As for all the miners its a very sad time here in WV. This state lives on coal. Its what we do here. I'm not a coal miner but I do come from a whole family of coal miners. Still have family in the mines and probably always will. Its a way of life here. I'm a security guard at a coal mine.

I have reached 1000 posts without getting banned or infracted:eek: so here is my way of celebrating!

This is a ridiculously cool offer, Ken. Thanks so much!

Here's a shot of me in SE Florida at Jonathan Dickinson state park just after a canoe trip. If you look closely, you can see my Victorinox Classic jammed in the picnic table. I was using it to open the smoked fish spread :-)

Ken, congratulations and 1000+ informative posts and may you have many more. That sure is a great looking knife you're giving away and whoever the winner is will be very fortunate to have it. The texturing is really sharp looking and gives me some ideas for other texture patterns.

Anyway, I'm blessed enough as it is and will be happy to sit back and watch you all have fun.

Thanks Kerry,

Likewise! Not sure were I will be when I hit 4000 like you but hope its here!

I just got back from buying blades etc for my riding mower and was thinking the same thing, what other textures can I come up with. I already plan on doing a fish scale texture like you see on some 1911A1 type slides and frames.

Ken, congrats on the 1k posts. I've been an admirer of your work ever since I discovered this site last fall. Been a long winter here in Iowa, as I'm sure it has in Wisconsin, too. I can't think of a better way to celebrate the arrival of spring than carrying a knife made by you! Thanks for the chance!

Anthony,
Looks like a Remington rifle?(this is a test , seeing if you will break the one post only rule, LOL) Pretty cool Chevy!

Comoha
I am honored your posting your 1000th in this thread. Congrats!

Kamagong,
Warms my heart to see youth have an interest in these old knives.

crbauhs
I think its great you guys went camping on spring break instead of getting drunk falling off motel railings on some island:thumbup:

Campbell,
I have to put you in the same category as Charlie(waynorth) WHAT CAN I SAY!;) Hmmmm, I think I remember the same trick watching the batman tv series

I am assuming you are talking about the ND football player who was 17, drunk, had a full football ride, and fell over the edge of his hotel? Yeah, that was sad. If not...ignore this:p
