Ken Erickson Knives: A Retrospective

And especially if you have a part of that history.

Thanks Ken,she's still very ,very special.

There is no knife like that knife, Lyle! A tribute to a using knife, there is nothing extraneous to its function, yet it is decorated for a person who is proud of the work they can do with it. Exquisite checkering provides a perfect grip. Sculptural blade grinding will do the budding and grafting steps as they need to be done, with a joyful flair! The pruning blade will make the clean cuts necessary to maintaining a healthy plant.
Over generations of humanity, we find hand tools that stand out and bring our thoughts back to the people who used them. We find them in museums!
They tell the stories of the creativity of humans, and what it means to bring joy to honest work. I can only imagine the joy that Ken must achieve when he creates a knife like that FJ! And it carries that emotion to the person who handles the tool afterward!

To Ken: That's a masterful treatment of an important historical pattern, and a tribute to the creativity of humans! Thanks, from all of us I am sure!

Beautiful trio of trappers Paul, making me want to hop across the ocean for a look-see ;)

I received this beauty today. One of Ken's EDC in Stag + CPMD2 from one of the members on here Slide/Chris. Thank ya for this one.
Best wishes still to Ken.

You finally got some great stag Tim. Congrats bud, that's such a good looking knife! I like that little circle that's on the pile side...

I agree on this. That's some nice stag and CPM-D2 is a wonderful steel. The pattern just says "carry me!".

Tim you must have used magic to pry that from Chris' hand. Great pattern and maker

Haha right place right time Jerry ;)

I agree Gary, generally on Ken's EDC's they're CPM154 but having CPM-D2 is the icing on the cake. It's with me today :)

Thanks bud, you know I've had a hunger for stag for quite a while :D

I believe I was the first to request and have Ken start building my knives with CPM-D2.
(He'd have to validate my recollection but I'm pretty sure.)

We had been using D-2 on a few earlier projects but I now have a handful with the CPM version and they're all, (no surprise here), awesome.

Some unexpectedly expensive dental work and the promise that I have dibs to buy it back if he ever parts with it in the future. If it had to go I'm happy I found a good home for it! :D

I had three implants with bone grafts, I know how expensive it is....ugh

Here is a bit more retrospective of Ken's work. A collage of knives from the master's hands!

I was cleaning up the safe, and re-arranging things so I can find them. Since I had these out, I plunked them on the scanner for your enjoyment. Most were made for me, with a couple acquired in trades or secondary purchases.

I feel blessed!

Nice! So fun seeing all those together, so many nice pieces! Ken is my favorite knife, asker, just love the variety and quality he puts out. He takes on builds that see out of those world (horsemans knife, sportsmanship knife) but will still build you a EDC knife for a great price that you can actually use.

One of these days I hope to get my dream knife, a Ken Erickson cattle knife with bone covers. It's the knife that if I can get it, will live in my pocket every day after.

Wise choice, my friend...

I can see why! Not only is it the perfect pattern IMO, but that is some of the best looking bone I've ever seen! Love the way the blades sit closed too, nice and low profile. Hope I can get Ken to build me one someday.
