Ken Erickson Knives: A Retrospective

I finished up one of my "Junior Michigan Pen's" in stag today. This is one of the knives going with me to BLADE in June. (knife not available). I find this knife to be a really neat size for someone looking for a stout working knife. The blade thickness is .130 CPM154CM and is flat ground. I use a bit thicker frame material when I build these knives giving a very round cross section. The closed length on this knife is 4 1/8. Thanks for looking!

James and Tony,

Thanks for the kind replies. My light box for taking photos is in very sad shape and these pictures are not the best I have done. I really like the way this knife turned out. I am still struggling with finding good stag but overall this is a pretty nice set.

Thanks again!

Ken

Ken,

that's another beauty coming out of your shop. I get excited every time I see you post a new knife! :o
I love the shape of the blade with the long pull and this extremely nice swedge - and that good looking stag :D

Makes me want one really bad...

Best,

Great looking knife, Ken. I'll look forward to seeing it in person in Atlanta. Someone's going to be a happy camper for sure.

Ken,

What a Fantastic knife! From the droolable stag, to the long pull with the great swedge work, this is the Total package! Who says that all "those Badgers do in the wintertime is sleep!" :D

Whoever gets this knife will get a treasure for life!

As I think you have heard once or twice..."Your work just keeps getting better and better!!!"

Ken, just completely amazing terrific knife. I can assure you everybody wants this one. The Stag is excellent and I prefer this over the much exalted "popcorn" Stag. But best of all is the pattern itself, somehow more attractive than a similar size Jack knife would be, and your execution of it is flawless, world class.
In addition to all this, it is indeed a "do it all" knife. If i could only ever have 1 knife, this one is it !!
A chance to own this knife entirely justifies a trip to Atlanta.

Ken i also want to say how much appreciated it is that you make such a wide range of patterns and regularly re-create patterns new to yourself, thus further expanding your range. This is such a treat for those of us who love Traditional patterns. This variety of patterns along with your superb workmanship, is what puts you and your knives into the level of "World Class", an esteemed group of just a few knifemakers.
This is not simply a hyperbole of compliments, but the truth, and i'm sure many here, if not all, will agree.
(now, do i get this knife ? )

Ken, the only thing that would make that one better is if it were made of carbon steel. That is truly a beautiful knife.

That's a real beauty Ken.
If "Junior" is 4 1/8" closed, how big is "Senior"!?!

I LOVE that one Ken, its killa. Everything is perfect, the stag, grinds, shield, cap, all just perfect!

Ken, the only thing that would make that one better is if it were MINE. That is truly a beautiful knife.

I received a Holly reprint catalog from Mike Robuck and in it, they had a knife that was 5 1/4 long that gave me the inspiration for this one. They call their knife a "Michigan Pen" hence the Junior moniker on this one.

Thanks for the very kind comments on this one! I appreciate them more than most of you guys will ever know.

The small end bolster is a really beautiful touch, I like the pin positioning and shield too, real knife architecture.

That knife takes one back 150 years! When men were men, a dollar was worth 100 cents, and a handshake was as good as a signature!!:D
Simply straightforward and beautiful!
You're on the right path young feller!!
