Ken Erickson Knives: A Retrospective

Great looking knife!

I have read and re-read the post but was is that on the back of the knife?

Sorry about that. I was not very clear in my original description that this knife has a master blade that locks. Many vintage locking blade knives used an extended tab, versus the much more common way of doing it today, IE cutting a crescent shape away from the frame.

Here is a Vintage Rogers pattern built along the same lines as mine.

Ken - that one is amazing! Thanks for sharing.

I hope we get a chance to see your pieces in Atlanta before they quickly vanish!

Great knife, Ken. You sure did get it nice and thin all around. Excellent work ;)

Thank Kerry,

Nothing worse than "fat stag" The thickness of the stag at the bolsters is only .085. This being the reason it was such a challenge for me to haft this knife. If memory serves this knife is only about .050 thicker than the single blade IXl that Mike Robuck sent me.

I was checking out the Bose thread this morning after Kerry posted a link to some videos that he shot of Tony soldering on bolsters. Got me to thinking I have not produced any of my own lately. These two videos are somewhat technical in nature so they may not appeal to a wide audience, however I do appreciate if you do decide to view. Please keep in mind that these are my methods and ways of doing things, neither right or wrong, but works for me.

I am also adding a link to a series of 4 videos showing how I mill integral bolsters/frames. This is the first of four, but if you go to my Youtube channel (ne6359) you will see the other 3.

Ken, those videos were informative. I appreciate you taking the time to put those up for us to view.

For being a pretty simple mechanical design, the level of precision used is just fascinating.

Ken: The videos were great. I especially liked the harness tester video. Now...if we could only get your milled liner/scale video and how you d:Do it in one setup!!!!.:D Trade you a set of stag;)

I just finished up one of my JMP's(Junior Michigan pen) for a forum member.

This one , hafted in Ebony, features A2. It will be interesting for me to see the patina that forms if allowed on this one. My customer also requested a slightly different shield than the straight bar with angled ends. This one has subtle curves thinning it out in the center. I think it was a very nice choice he made.

Thanks for looking!

Ken,
The Video's were excellent! Very detailed. Just shows a
few more reasons why slip joints are so hard to make,"Right"!!
Soooo much detail! But that's why we all love them!
Thanks allot for taking time to make them for all of us.

This Jr.MP, looks great! That shield does look perfect for this
pattern! Ebony looks very classy on there as well!
Congrats to you both!

She's a beaut, Ken. I agree, that shield really works well. To my eye it fits the proportions of the knife even better than the shield you were using before.

How well does A2 patinate, anyhow? Anybody know?

Pretty nicely. I have a BRKT Imp in A2 (and had a Hedgehog in the same), and they didn't take long to take on a nice, deep, even grey.
Two thumbs up for A2!
