Ken Onion joined forces with CRKT

It looks like I'll have to buy my first CRKT knife. I've been given a few CRKT knives or received them in trades to sweeten the pot a little, but I was never impressed and always regifted them. This looks like it may be a winner. Time will tell.

Hmmm. Looks pretty cool. I may have to reconsider CRKT once again, after writing off most of their knives.

Interesting. The only CRKT knives that really appealed to me were the Kit Carson designs. These don't look that bad.

Heat treated stainless steel is stronger than Ti and has higher wear resistance. IMHO, Ti is over-rated, it's only good for reducing weight.

It is good to hear someone else with such an opinion, Flatgrinder. I have held the same opinion for a long time. *Says he, wearing a Titanium linered Emerson. :o*

Looks like a neat knife.

Seems like I heard of Acuto+ a few years back but cannot recall where.

CRKT has a habit of making gimmicky knives sometimes IMO but they also have made some genuine winners.

The pictures don't show CRKT anywhere on the knives and this knife doesn't show up on CRKTs website or the 2009 Catalog. Wonder if AG Russell has released a 2010 model early or what's up?

Might have to get another CRKT if this turns out as nice as it looks.

Funny, I followed that change pretty closely being a rabid Kershaw AND Ken Onion fan (his designs are still my all time favorites)

I'm almost positive no one has ever disclosed the details of Ken Onion taking a different path. I believe both parties wish that to remain the case, so I'm not sure your statement of "fact" has much foundation.

The closest I ever saw of an explanation was when Ken posted something to the effect that he did not want to leave Kershaw, but no further details were given. Whatever happened is between Ken and Kershaw. I am just glad they collaborated to produce many great designs. Now it looks like CRKT may be on this same road. Although I am not a big CRKT fan I have to admit the design and IKBS system looks pretty good. This could be win situation for Ken, CRKT, and Onion fans.

I don't know a lot about Kershaw but I heard he brought them from the brink of collapse. If that is true I can't believe they let him go.

I like the looks of it. It has the Ken Onion look without the AO and the recurve, along with IKBS. It's the Onion knife that Kershaw should've produced, but never got to. I wish him the best in his collaboration with CRKT. Hopefully, they will manufacture his designs with the quality they deserve.

eh, I dunno if I would want to know the MSRP on that if they machined the 3D shape, ripple pattern, 44 holes, and IKBS races in Ti instead of stainless. Looks pretty cool as is, and the weight is nice.

I don't know any details either but I find that hard to believe. Galyean, Williams, Martin, G&G, along with in house and some others I didn't mention have been doing pretty good for Kershaw lately. I don't see them slowing down anytime soon.

I hope CRKT is able to uphold the quality for Ken, I'd hate to see his design be butchered by shotty quality.

I don't disagree that those designers are doing good work, but I don't think most of us had heard of Kershaw before Ken Onion's Leek, Scallion, and Chive. Assisted opening and those good designs put Kershaw on the map, IMHO. I don't know if Onion invented AO or Kershaw did, but I think it took Kershaw from an also-ran to a major player.

Maybe I'm wrong. If so, maybe one of the sages here can give us the history of Kershaw before and after KO.

I think that is a pretty close assessment.

The arrival of Mr. Onion seemed to put some "getty-up" in the Kershaw company.

Looks kind of like a slimmed down Ener-G, albeit with fancier handles, to me.

Actually, I find your statement rather humorous. Suggesting that Ken is copying other people's knife designs? I don't think so. If anything it's the other way around... And from what I know I don't believe that those 5 guys(no disrespect) mentioned above have generated the amount of sales that Ken has with just one model(take your pick) that Kershaw has produced. Even if you combine their total sales they still don't come close to selling the amount of say Leeks that Kershaw has sold. Don't be stupid all your life.

Anyway, here it is next to a custom Ripple. For a first effort in trying to produce an Onion design it's very good.

You guys need to read. He said that Ken Onion saved them from collapse, when you read the about us on the site, they had been expanding before Ken Onion.
They weren't collapsing or on the brink of failure, he boosted Kershaw, but he wasn't the saving grace for them that kept them alive. Obviously if they were expanding they weren't on the brink of failure. I replied directly to him, it wasn't a blanket statement.
