Kentucky Derby 148 - the Run for the Roses Mystery GAW

View attachment 1810430

I did one of these Derby give aways some years back and I thought I might donate a few knives during this years Kentucky Derby and to thank all of the porch folk for, well, just being the porch folks. 😉☺️

There will be rules to follow and I kindly ask that anyone entering to first verify to yourself that you have at least fifty posts in "Traditional Folders and Fixed Blades". The Exchange does not count.

I want these knives to go to regular contributors on this forum who contribute to the success of it. If you don't have that many posts in traditional, I hope that you might qualify for some other give away. 😊

If you can verify to yourself that you have the necessary posts in this forum, first state that you are in. Please don't be shy or post that this is a fine give away and/or not an entry or anything like that or that you have been the recipient of other GAW's. I will ship the prizes at my own expense to the winners world wide.

Second, you will need to pick from the field 3 horses. 1 to win, 1 to place, and 1 to show in this years Kentucky Derby 148. 🍀 🍀 🍀 If you don't like horse racing or object to it, please feel free to not say so in this thread and please do not enter this GAW.

Below is the current field for you to pick from. If one or more of your horses scratches before the Derby runs on Saturday afternoon, you can adjust your picks in a new post. It is likely that I will narrow the field from members in the race, from your success at picking the winners, but, I might not. Either way, the final rules about winning the knives or other prizes will be posted prior to the Derby run. I will then likely draw from a hat after the race has been run and the results have been announced as official. You will need to have your picks for horses to win posted before race time on Saturday.

Lastly and very important, please post a picture or pictures (the more the merrier) of a group of your knives. Each photo, more than two and fewer than 22. In other words, what I would like to see is you to show off group photos of your best knives and try to WOW us all. It should be good fun and good luck to all that enter ! Multiple posts, as many as you want, are allowed and wanted !

Mystery Update # 1 - I have decided to make this a mystery give away as well. What's the mystery ? You will have to figure it out, as you would if you read a mystery novel. There may clues in a single post I make
or response I make to participants. You will have to read closely to better your chances of winning. The other part of the mystery is what the third knife or prize might be.

Ohh- I almost forgot the prizes !!! 😲

First prize - Lon Humphrey Cocobolo Whitetail Hunter Fixed Blade 5 & 5/8ths" OAL :

Second Prize is a Walnut handled carbon steel fixed blade knife that was made by a BF knife maker back in 2015, 7 & 5/8ths" OAL :

There will be a third prize and that is currently a mystery - could be a consolation prize.

I reserve the right to change or alter any rules, as might be needed, prior to race time. So come back and check frequently.

Good luck to all who enter !!!

Well I see we are off to a great start !☺️

Harry won ! 😲🤣

Just kidding Harry, but, you set a pretty high bar with those knives !:thumbsup::thumbsup:😇

eisman, you are currently running second with a lot of fine pieces of cutlery in that fine cabinet ! Maybe your horse will surge !

You will all need to post an order of finish for your three picks. It might become important. For instance, right now I am thinking that if anyone hits the trifecta, in other words picks the top three finishers exactly in the right order, they will likely win the first prize without any drawing. Then the second place prize will be drawn for in another way. I have to work it out in my head and will update when I figure it out. Clear as mud ? 🤣

Thanks for the kind words Mr. Primble . I can remember back when you , paulhilborn paulhilborn , and Markesharp Markesharp were into those Humphreys and I also liked them but never got one .
Take care my friend .

Harry

Say there Rob could you make one of the prizes a Hearthead Barlow. I didn't win one in the last two GAW's. Thanks in advance for your generosity!
You'll have to ask Mr. Jack about that. I am afraid I am fresh out of Hartshead Barlows. Oh wait, I never had one, did I ? 🤣 ....................... and thanks for reminding me that I counted my chickens poorly and lost ! 🙃 I might never put a good luck charm in my pocket ever again after this last experience ! 😲 🍀

Impressive collection Harry! 👌 😎
I still think you have one of my 73 stags 🤔 😁
I might indeed have it Mark .When I ordered it they said somebody from Michigan reserved it and they did not want to sell it to someone from there . Where is Michigan anyhow . Is it North of Wisconsin or East of Wisconsin ???? The Uppers do make some great Pasties . Is that the correct way to spell Pasties ?
Never need a knife to cut one from Up There .
