Kentucky Derby 148 - the Run for the Roses Mystery GAW

Sensationally interesting GAW Mr. Primble:cool:

I like a gamble and don't care who knows it, The Casino: he came there on foot and left in a Coach of Gold 😻
Problem is I don't know the form for this Kentucky Derby....best have some Kentucky Bourbon and start creative thinking, then give some Bourbon to nobble the opposition horses :D

You say 2- 22 knives, you mean there are some people with MORE than 22????
OK here's 3 pictures, not very technical but a certain elegance.....

Fun giveaway for sure! Hm…I’ve never been good at guessing horse races, but it pays to actually have watched some of the horses run, eh? 😊

I’ll go with this combination:
Win: Messier
Place: Zandon
Show: Epicenter

My best three, no need to guess:

That's a good start Will, but, be careful not to get too liquored up ! 🤣

I see you have a fondness for dog legs and have many beautiful examples to show - that's what I am talking about ................................ except there are no dogs in this race, just horses ! 🤣

Elijah recommends this for pre-race. He is a little partial to the name though. Hey maybe we can get a sponsor and give away all my knives.☺️

Very Generous of ya!!! This brings back memories of my father taking us to the track as a kid, and stopping at the OTB. Im sitting in the clinic right now and dont have access to my knives, so I will post later. But, Happy Jack to win, Summer is Tomorrow to place, and Zozos to show! 2. Messier
3. Zandon

I've been to The Oaks and the Derby only once, the year Big Brown won and Eight Belles broke down after the race. So sad. A great weekend with a bitter ending. Still like to watch the races, go to Hot Springs for a racing weekend once a year. It's a good time.

Thanks a lot for a unique GAW thread.

I’m in. Biting my tongue to not say anything complimentary on your don’t list. ;)

Kentucky Derby History

There are few American sporting events with the history and popularity of the Kentucky Derby. It’s rich traditions – sipping a mint julep, donning a beautiful hat, and joining fellow race fans in singing “My Old Kentucky Home” – transcend the Kentucky Derby from just a sporting event, making it a celebration of southern culture and a true icon of Americana. The Kentucky Derby is the longest running sporting event in the United States, dating back to 1875. The race is often referred to as "The Run for the Roses®" and has continuously produced “the most exciting two minutes in sports”; uninterrupted, even when coinciding with profound historical events like The Great Depression and World Wars I & II.

The Kentucky Derby’s long history began in 1872, when Meriwether Lewis Clark, the grandson of William Clark – of the famed pair Lewis and Clark – traveled to Europe. While there, Clark attended the Epsom Derby in England, a well-known horse race run since 1780, and also fraternized with the French Jockey Club, a group that developed another popular horse race, the Grand Prix de Paris Longchamps. Clark was inspired by his travels and experiences, and, upon his return, was determined to create a spectacle horse racing event in the States. With the help of his uncle’s John & Henry Churchill, who gifted Clark the necessary land to develop a racetrack, and by formally organizing a group of local race fans to be named the Louisville Jockey Club, Clark and his new club raised funds to build a permanent racetrack in Louisville, Kentucky. On May 17th, 1875, the racetrack opened its gates and the Louisville Jockey Club sponsored the very first Kentucky Derby. A total of fifteen three-year-old Thoroughbred horses raced one and a half miles in front of a cheering crowd of approximately 10,000 spectators. Aristides was the first winner of the Kentucky Derby.

As with any major event, the Kentucky Derby has undergone various changes over the course of three centuries. From shortening the distance of the race, the introduction of traditions like draping the winning horse in a garland of roses, to the growing size of Derby crowds, the Kentucky Derby has embraced the change of time, while honoring the integrity of the spectacle race set forth by Meriwether Lewis Clark.

Wonderful knives being posted, but just want to mention that one of the rules of this giveaway is that there be "less than 22" knives posted, and I think a couple of posters have exceeded that amount. Don't want anyone to be disqualified!

Since he later added that you get to enter as many photos as you wanted, I took that to mean that each photo would have between 2 and 22 knives.

Primble, please clarify!
You took my meaning just right Jeff ! Nobody will be disqualified for too many knives or too many photos of them. The reason I picked 22 is that is the number of horses currently listed to race and also if you try to post a picture with more than 22, your knives are going to look less impressive because they will look so small.

Good catch John, but, not to worry ! Let’s all just have some good clean fun and may you all have good luck ! 🍀

I wouldn’t recommend lucky charms in yer pockets though. 😹

I do see a few have entered without posting any group photo. Undecided at this point how to address that. I really don’t want to disqualify anyone, except myself, of course ! 😹

P.S. - I clarified my original post.
