Kerry Hampton Knives

In carbon, 1095 seems fine in my limited exp.A2 works well too but 52100 goes rusty if you breathe on it..

Prefer ATS 34 or conventional stainless over D2 myself, the latter gets a weird 'blobby'patina in my use.

From a knife making point of view, A2 and "stain resistant" D2 is a lot cleaner to work with because they are air quench steels. The other carbon steels you mention are all oil quench steels....messy stinky oily messy poo poo. :p

Yes, but for a great working blade, which would you use?

I haven't used any blade hard enough to develop a preference but I like using D2. It's true it's kinda funny looking after a while of use but it's D2...goes with the territory. Kinda like an ugly girlfriend that's good in the sack, not that I have any experience mind you...just sayin :p

Of course no one was home to sign for it when it arrived, but fortunately for me my beautiful and adoring wife got home early and drove up to the post office to retrieve it, saving me from another restless nights sleep. Of course she hid it in somewhere in the house, and I had to pay one of my children to tell me where, but thank you all the same honey :D.

I want to say how happy I am with the knife, and the process of getting it done. Kerry is a great guy to work with and I hope to do it again as soon as possible. I don't have a lot of knives, but I carry and use them all and without getting all long winded I just want to say I can't imagine more service, or a better product, for my money. You Da Man Kerry!

Also a quick thanks to both Kerry and Tony on the knife pick. That was something I dropped on Kerry at the last minute and they made it happen for me. Thanks guys.

I snapped a few pics in my homemade light box last night. I thought I would put a few in here and see what you guys think:

Great pics of a great looking LK Flymon!!!

Yet another stunner by Kerry:thumbup:

Right back at ya! I saw your pics the other day before I saw mine and was pretty excited when I realized that was the same micarta I was getting.
A KB will be next, unless that day in 2012 when the earth will end gets here first ;)

That one is out of the park Flymon! Congrats on picking a winner. That Kerry sure makes one helluva slip joint!

I think D-2 is a great steel, too.

Now how am I supposed to decide between a Lanny's Clip and a KnutBuster when my name comes to the top of the list again. Don't say both because even if Kerry would allow it my pocket book won't!

My, my, my, my, my....

Finished this one today... 4.5" stag BackPocket w/Zulu Spear Blade (prototype). Blade is 52100(A2 spring) etched for effect and flush joint(ed). I sliced the stag from a round that I got at Blade a couple of years ago, hence the great color match. Good texture too. Pinned diminuto escroto shield :p It's already spoken for ;)
