Textured G-10, liner lock, ZDP steel, SpeedSafe On/Off $150 MSRP

The Ti would be sweet but the G10 would make it more functional, IMHO. The textured G10 is one of the big reasons I reach for my Manix over the Skirmish and the Ares over several other mid-sized folders in the stable. Not too mention the price difference.

I like the ZT-0302 a lot but am not entirely certain I can justify the expense for my use. Of course, as you stated before Thomas, the MSRP should hold in all retail outlets for the ZT due to the charitable factor (:) ) so maybe the Ti version of the ZDP Cyclone might be quite a bit cheaper in reality than the MSRP.

Yep... G10 please. Black is preferred but the coyote brown of the ZT series would be awfully nice too.

Thanks for asking!!

BTW - I like the on/off feature a lot for one simple reason. Knife laws are a bit vague but the discretion of the LEO is often the conundrum one with which one must deal. I like that, in the event of a gov't building search, simple traffic stop, or Nat'l Monument checkpoint, I can turn the AO off and the knife appears much more innocous. (sp?)

There was a recent story about a man definitely having his knife confiscated and he may have been arrested/fined, I don't recall. He dropped his Chive and car keys into a metal detector tray at the St. Louis Gateway Arch. Legal length folders aren't typically a problem but the AO feature convinced everyone that it was an illegal switchblade. Not true in Missouri but a heap of trouble nonetheless. The AO switch is pretty stout and the ON/OFF font is tiny. I kind of like it.

i vote for another Ti/ZDP

but then again, its probabbly cuz im addicted to Ti now... :(

Ti/ZDP/framelock in the Cyclone sounds like a winning combination to me.

Not sure what the appeal is but I just love that on/off feature. Its like its two completely different knives when I'm playing with that thing. Its definitely unique.

Can someone post a picture of the ON/OFF switch? I haven't seen one yet.

That little thing on the top:

Thanks, Vassili.

Thanks Vasalli! I think that is a cool feature. I would be willing to pay a bit more for it I guess. Damnit, I guess I will have to get one if they make them with the ZDP! So many knives so little money.:)

Somebody on the forums was also talking about the Kershaw Leek TI ZDP189 and saw one on eBay if anyone is interested. The seller (not me "up-for-grabs") is asking $174.95 Buy it Now only. The auction number is: 170018955270.

Seems like a cool knife, but I hear Kershaw's sharpening is inconsistant?

I've got a Cyclone coming and can't wait to try it out. This knife hobby is getting to be addictive in a hurry. In the last 3 weeks, I've bought 3 different knives. I don't know if the Cyclone will replace my Lone Wolf T1 as my EDC, but if I like it, I'd want it in G-10 with the ZDP steel. I'd worry too much about losing a more expensive knife if it was $250 in Ti.

I would like to see the scales quite a bit thicker on the Cyclone than the Leek. I am sure they would be anyway but I think the thickness of the Sebenza is a lot of what gives it that solid feel. It is a comprimise for weight I know but worth it. The Leek's thickness I think is appropriate as it is something of a "gentleman's knife" but the Cyclone needs to be stout. Why not offer it with G10 too and please everyone?
Jason

If it's not too late I'd like to stick my snout in here. IMO, going with the lower price is the better chooice for now. This is near a cutoff where some people won't purchase a knife due to price. Keep it down as much as possible.

The more customers you draw in now, the more you will have for the next project. Driving the price up too soon on a company that has typically had moderate prices will alienate some longtime customers. You never want to lose them, just add more. MO anyhow. There's a good possibility it will be competing with the leek sprint run also given the size of that sprint. That would be a bad thing. Joe L.

I'll throw this out, which way would you want to see this Cyclone:

Ti framelock, ZDP steel, SpeedSafe On/Off $250 MSRP

Textured G-10, liner lock, ZDP steel, SpeedSafe On/Off $150 MSRP

I'm close to pulling the trigger on a short run of these.

How much would be Ti framelock 154CM/ATS34/S30V (the cheaper the better, although S30V>154CM if priced the same :)) without AO and without G10 (and similiar) (just plain Ti)?

Thomas, thanks for asking the question.

I would prefer the Ti Framelock, ZDP, SS version. I think this would be a good seller, and a short sprint run would get gobbled up in a hearbeat. Looking at the MSRP vs. net price of the 1660TIZDP I'm betting it would be available for <$200...

Ditto!!!

Thanks everyone for the input. I had Craig do a bit of calculating, and here are the final numbers;

Cyclone, Ti Framelock, ZDP-189 Steel, SpeedSafe On/Off, MSRP $240
Cyclone, Ti Framelock, S30V Steel, SpeedSafe On/Off, MSRP $225
Blur (no flipper), Aluminum scales w/textured G-10 inserts, ZDP-189 Steel, MSRP $175

There is only enough ZDP steel for one more project this year, but we could do both the Ti/S30V Cyclone, and the ZDP Blur.

I'm confused on what is more desirable, is it the Ti Framelock, the ZDP-189 steel, or the combo of both?

Thanks again everyone.

I'd say the combo of both!
Thanks Thomas,
G2

The combo is nice! I think the framelock is the most important part. That with S30V, CPM154CM, BG42, etc... would make me happy.:)
Jason

I think the combo of both ti and ZDP, it would keep Kershaw as the only company offering a ZDP framelock, in sizes that should be sure to please.

I would be interested in a ti framelock version of the Cyclone in any high end steel, CPM 154, S30V are both good choices besides the ZDP.

Before any Cyclone I would like to see the Junkyard Dawg in Ti and ZDP (laminated preferred). Why the cyclone? I think the JYD is a natural choice... already manual flipper so no AO concern of some here and great blade grind!

I also favor the Ti framelock as the priority on this knife. And, as Jason commented above, any of those steels would be just fine with me. While the ZDP-189 might make for a slightly more unique or exquisite offering, the reality of it all is that I don't think most of us could detect any appreciable difference in the performance of those steels in our typical daily cutting chores. All just my opinion of course.

Robert makes a good point about the Junkyard Dog also. Since this is a new knife, producing a Ti/ZDP version might be a big hit on it's introduction.
