Kershaw/Emerson models in stock

Anyone else notice this in the "how to use your emerson wave" booklet?
Looks to be a walker lock part serrated 6k. Probably a prototype, maybe down the road? Or is this just an emerson model I'm missing?

Looks like an Emerson Specwar. I could be wrong though.

The spec war isn't waved is it? Also, it looks to have Kershaw branded on the lock side of the blade in this picture, albeit larger type than the production models.

You're right, I forgot it wasn't waved. It could be a Journeyman, but with the apparent Kershaw logo it probably is a prototype of some kind - the handle shape looks very different from the 6k. I remember hearing/reading somewhere that Emerson had something like 500 designs just sitting around, and Kershaw commissioned a number of them and then tweaked them (added framelocks, etc).

Just curious, how is the wave opening going for you guys? My 7K doesn't fully lock up when I use the wave feature, which kind of freaks me out from a safety stand point. She's also a little difficult to open, should I play with the pivot? Blade is perfectly centered and there's no play during lock up. Let me know what you guys think. FYI, i've tried it with jeans and have had no success. Could it be just that I need to practice?

Thanks,

Pete

The wave opening on my 5K and 6K are fine. If the wave opener comes off your pocket before the knife is fully drawn, then it's possible it won't open the blade all the way. In my case, I tilt the knife handle down a little as I'm drawing the knife to make sure the wave opener has a good, solid catch on my pocket. I had the same experience with the Emerson CQC-7 (the one made by Emerson). If this is your first wave opener knife, just practice a bit until you get a feel for the angle to use when pulling the knife from your pocket. The angle will also vary depending on the style of your pockets (eg. jeans vs. slacks).

Both of mine open smoothly, but they're not flickable. Part of it may just be the wearing in of the Nylatron washers, which don't seem quite as slick as the bronze washers, at least initially. It could also be the tightness of the pivot screw, so you can try adjusting that (using small increments, like 1/8th of a turn at a time). The Nylatron washers are self lubricating, so they should get smoother as they wear in.

Here's what I do for the wave opening. The red arrow shows the direction I am moving the knife at each stage. When drawing, pull back to angle the knife such that the wave catches the seam of your pocket. Once it's caught, continue moving the knife almost straight back to keep the wave hooked onto your pocket, which will open the blade partially. When the blade is about half open, finish drawing the knife by actually pulling down a little, which should finish puling the blade open. There may be other techniques, but this has worked for me.

We have some amazing (and amazingly helpful) members on this board, that's for sure. Flarp here takes the time to put together a detailed response, to include pictures. Any other forum, it'd probably be a response of "WHY NOT USE THE SEARCH FEATURE, NOOB!!1!"

This place is the best.

I think flarp covered it quite well. I'll add that in my experience pulling backwards like flarp does while simultaneously pulling the knife away from my body works best.
I started with a waved endura, then a mini cqc-7 and now one of the kershaw cqc-5's. It does take a bit if practice and this type of opening might not be for everyone. Also I noticed the kershaw doesn't like my baggy cargo shorts and works better with pockets that fits tighter.

Heavier material clothing definitely makes it easier. Giving the knife a slight twist away from the body as it catches can help on lighter materials.

Got the 5k and 6k, will grab a few more here shortly. Biggest thing i've noticed is they absolutely need to be cleaned out of the box. So much oil, grease, and crud in them from the factory it's no surprise they don't open easily, not to mention the tight pivot. They couldn't be easier to disassemble(although the lack of torx is frustrating), and a quick wipe down plus a touch of your lube/oil of choice (i used some froglube) makes them feel like a whole 'nother knife. Both of mine are now easily flickable, super smooth, and wave perfectly. Definitely great knives for the price and a great collaboration.

Also i'm a wave towards the front guy, except on the 6k which is waiting for longer pocket clip screws..., but for anyone who can, try switching the pocket clip for left hand carry and waving using the front of your pocket. I started doing it that way with my waved Spyderco last year and am a believer.

Waving my Emersons has never been an issue for me. I'm really glad to hear the Kershaws wave just as good.

I really need to get paid already so I can give Dave my money :D

The SOCFK's are basically waved SPECWARs. I have a SOCFK in hand though and the handle looks quite different from the pictured knife's.

Received my 8K yesterday and my 4K today, as far as first impressions go, I like the 4K better. I'll have to give them each some pocket time to see which I like better. But that 8K is heavy.

Update: I practiced with Flarp's advice and she wave's open fantastically! Thanks again!

You're very welcome. These Kershaw-Emerson collaboration pieces are pretty awesome. The wave opening is fun. It almost gives the impression of keeping an open knife in your pocket.

I think the weight is by design, I have had two Emerson's and both were pretty beefy.

Just got my 6K from Dave yesterday. It has jumped right into my pocket today, and it is one of the most fun knives I have! Be tough to decide what to carry between it and my 0550 ZT when I want a big knife.
