Kershaw JunkYard Dog II pics

Without a doubt that's one of the best looking pocket knives that I have seen. My complements to whoever designed this knife. And yes, that liner lock looks more like a framelock. I just gotta have one.

Damn nice knife... Vassili, is the blade length 3.75 in??

I assume the knife locks up like a bank vault.. no blade play??

Tim Galyean designed these. Both are beyond belief in my opinion for the price. I've compared the JYD II to my Emerson favorites and have to swallow hard but still can't help but admit they are just a better built knife. Sorry but its the case. Look for yourself if you don't buy it.

Note the thickness of these liners in the JYDII liner lock and then compare to the smaller JYD frame lock. Used to be you only saw this in higher dollar custom or mid tech folders.

Besides the flipper style opening without assist, there are some other neat innovations in these new Kershaws. Look at the stop pin location on the frame lock. Its in the same place in the liner lock also. The blade actually has a slot cut out of it around the pivot and it sits over the stop pin and rotates around it bumping the pin to rest in the closed and open positions to stop the blade. The detent ball is located in a different spot than is usually seen also.

Here is a shot for the guy asking about the lock relief. And another to give a size comparison of the two models. The JYD and the JYDII which is of course the larger model.
Oh, and yes the blade on the JYDII is 3.75". and 3" on the JYD.

STR already answered - 3.75" blade length.

It is interesting that blade is look like Taboo blade. Actually this knife does mutch Kershaw model line in terms of look. I gues in blade is almost same but handle - instead on Ken Onion convex curves he did concave and it benefit looks very well. Also I like pattern on G10, small detail but this is sign of top designer.

I am looking forward for more knives from Tim Galyean. I did not find anything about him on Kershaw website.

Thanks, Vassili.

What a nice folder! Mind you this is a production knife. Can't wait to get my hands on one. Kudos to Kershaw and Galyean for making this knife.

The knife is designed by a world famous knife maker, not kershaw. Why would a discrete clip be better? I like the fact the clip looks good with the knife and is not some small unmatching piece of metal. I never carry illegal so it doesnt matter to me if people see that I have a knife.

I just don't believe that you should make it obvious you are carrying a knife
although I could carry a 5.5 in. or smaller here in Texas, legally. I prefer that
nobody knows I have it unless I need to pull it for whatever reason(not just defense).

Those liners are awesome! After seeing that pic, I have to have one! And yes, that custom clip is better.(imho, of course!)

This is a very fine and well made knife. My local knife store received there shipment in last week and I bought two of them. I have not see the smaller JYD yet, is it out?

Yeah they are BEEFY! I was surprised to see how thick they are, I was expecting thin liners.

Wow nice! Now I'm in trouble; I can't decide between the JYD I, or II... Most likely I have to buy both.

THE PROGRESSION:

Going to buy JYDII when I first saw it

Not going to buy JYDII when I saw the clip

Going to buy JYDII when I saw pic of the thick liners

Definately going to buy JYDII now that I can get a clip from STR!! :D

hmmmm pretty much the same for me. Don't like tip down. Enough to keep me from getting the knife.

But if STR could put the clip for tip up carry.......

Called NGK and they're out till next week some time. Need to find out about the zdp/ti Cyclone too.

So much for telling my wife I wouldn't be buying any knives for a while......

Finally, a non recurved working blade shape! :) The handle appears to be a nice fitting one as well. But the flipper feature neccesitates that the cutting edge of the blade be far away from the finger groove. I personally prefer an edge that comes real close to the hand for my cutting style/ needs. :(

Thanks, Vassili.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I am glad that a few of these are finally out in peoples hands. I hope that this knife sets a new standard for liner locks as they don't get much love these days.

I like the clip on the Cyclone better; I think the Cyclone clip is really great.

Regarding the clip, We are going to do a running change to the Cyclone clip for tip up/tip down on the lock side and also tip down on the front. I originally designed the pocket clip with the intent of flowing with the lines of the knife and also for a good feel in the hand. After reviewing your guys input a more user friendly clip will be better off for a production knife.

If you guys would like to see pictures of the custom version visit my site.

Thanks, for joining our discussion Tim, excellent design!

Do not please change the shape of the clip - it is first clip wich does not bother my palm and feel very comfortable.

What do you think about thumbstud or something, may be just some groves just to make thumb not slopping from this area? I guess everybody just get used to something for thumb in that area of the blade and this feels unusual.

Other thing, it is not important, but if you put big choil overlapping with flipper - then it will be possible to put index finger close to edge for some kind of jobs. It is plenty of space in that area and I guess choil will just benefit overall look.

Thanks, Vassili.

Swimming against the current here... I love the clip.. it really does flow with the design of the knife

BAH! I think the clip looks great, nothing better than custom looks with a cheap price. Not all of us have to hide our knife. I know the tip up/down carry would sell more knives but man I hate unused holes all over a knife. I love the JYD as is and better grab one before something happens to the clip. =P

Nice to see you join us Tim. Thanks for dropping by and for the web site link. I added it to my faves.

No thumb stud is good for business you can leave that as is. :D Just kidding I really don't mind but there are some getting back to me about putting one on theirs, but not just the JYDs.

However on a serious note. Tim this clip here on the knife pictured below is very appealing to me. I like the rivet look that goes with the folder also. I have always liked gentle curves and thinner clips though but many times curves don't always go with a knife that well and most people are more interested in function and feel I think and consider a clip to be ugly regardess of how much work I put into one. I know many knife makers don't even like them because they feel they detract from the knife in some way. I like them personally though.
