Kershaw Knives News Thread

Jeremy, thanks for starting this thread up. I was going to see if you fellow Kershaw guys could help me decide something. I have been trying to decide between getting a zt0200 or an Offset. Thomas told me that the Offset would be coming out in Jan. or Feb. with g-10 scales and no black coating, so I'm trying to decide if I should wait on the Offset and go for the zt right now. Hopefully I won't see any of the new zt knives until after I make up my mind. Looks like we have a lot to look forward to.

I'm looking forward to the G-10 Offset also, but I think I would put my money on the ZT 0200.

Greetings
Great idea this thread - perhaps we should create a Kershaw forum?

If you think 2 time zones from Oregon is bad; try keeping in touch from Africa!

Somebody referred to a Kershaw Bump (Blue handled, no 0431, appears to be a frame-lock) in another thread. I've never seen this Kershaw before - I have the Spec Bump & Steven Seagal and my wife has the Cyclone & Storm 2. It is also not to be found on the Kershaw web-site. I need more info on this knife....PLEASE!

Ah...uh, hehe...silly me:o Thanx for the update Thomas, and looking forward to the new ZT's

I have a friend that lives up there in Oregon I may just have to see how close he is to the factory so I can snag some deals too.

I'd also love to see a Kershaw forum. I'd be more than happy to volunteer as one of the moderators there too if need be hint hint..

STR

I have already suggested this in the Support Forum that Spark and Cougar Allen set up a new Kershaw Forum, but I get the impression that there is a lot more work than would first appear and that there is a cost involved for a manufacturers forum? There is after all a very powerful advertising medium in having a forum dedicated to one manufacturer.

It wasn't totally thrown out, but put on a backburner until 'things change'. Anyway, I want to be moderator, I asked first, I love Kershaw knives. :D

I'm probably the only one this has happened to, but the Baby Boa is what converted me to a Kershaw fan...yup, the teeny weeny Baby Boa. I just love the overall design, blade shape (my favorite blade shape, enough recurve, but not too much...perfect), and handle shape. I wish a slightly larger version, but same proportions was available. I know this won't happen due to the seemingly low interest, but I'd love to see a better blade steel in the Baby Boa (I have both silver and black limited edition versions) and Mini Mojo. Shoot, I'd love a half G10, half titanium slab frame lock Mini Mojo with AUS-8 or higher blade steel (would love AUS-10). Alas, I know it won't happen.
I'm looking forward to the ZDP-189 Mini-Cyclone, but I prefer my EDCs to be about 2.5" blade length (currently carrying my Baby Boas). I used to carry larger, but didn't have the need for larger blades in my daily tasks.

A Kershaw forum would be nice, but would need a Kershaw employee to moderate. Trust me, I have personally begged Thomas for months now. This thread should be adequate for the time being.:)

Lazydog, do a "Kershaw Blue Bump" search on yahoo or google and you will find info on that knife. It is an S30V blade with Anodized blue or green Titanium handles. Great knife!!!

Jamarlatt, I would go with the ZT 0200. I prefer that blade shape and steel (S30V)to the Offset (440MIME), though the Offset does have Speedsafe. The ZT might be harder to find, but it is cheaper.

Jeremy I thought the zt0200 was 154cm blade steel, at least that is what is listed at tadgear for the zt0200 I think it is the zt0300 that is s30v. I am excited to get to try out the zt0200 in the pass around maybe that will make up my mind for sure.

My bad, I was trying to go from memory on that knife. jamarlatt is right, the 0300 series and the 0400 series are S30V, but the 0200 is 154CM.

No problem Jeremy, I've been looking quite a bit at the new zt models. What is your opinion on the better blade steel the 154cm in the zt0200 or the 440c used in the Offset.

Jamarlatt, I just don't know that much about the MIM 440C used in the Offset. Kershaw refers to it as 440CPM stainless in their catalog. I don't know of anyone on BF who has ever done a thorough review of the Offset's steel. Perhaps a passaround would be nice? I am hosting JYD passarounds later this year, but maybe Thomas would like to donate a G-10 Offset to a passaround now?

I really want to like the Offset, but was never wild about the splatter design of the aluminum handle. But a G-10 Offset could put it over the top in my opinion. But for now, I have to give my vote to the ZT 0200 with the 154CM steel and the $160 retail price. The ZT is also lighter, and truly ambidextrous.

Yeah, I really like the Offset and like you I do not like the splatter paint. I am debating on going ahead and getting one and then possibly replacing the scales with a different material. But that might be kind of stupid. It's probably worth it just to wait until the g-10 offset comes out.
I also agree it would be cool if Thomas could donate a g-10 Offset for a pass around.

I would definitely want in on a G10 Offset passaround!

I think it would be very cool, but Thomas has already been SUPER generous to us thus far. Let's not start pushing him too hard or we'll run him off again. If Thomas thinks a Passaround will help generate Offset sales, then I will HAPPILY help set up another passaround! What I am trying to say is that I really appreciate everything Thomas has contributed to our Kershaw addiction and I don't want to get greedy.

And these are for Thomas:

There is no theory of evolution, only a list of animals Bobby Knight allows to live.
The chief export of Bobby Knight is PAIN.
The quickest way to a man's heart is Bobby Knight's fist.
If Bobby Knight ever has sex with a man, it will not be because he is gay, but because Knight has run out of women.
Bobby Knight has counted to infinity-TWICE
Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Bobby Knight.

I agree that Thomas has been extremely generous, I was not suggesting he needed to donate the Offset for a pass around just agreeing that it would be cool.
Jeremy thanks for your opinion on the zt0200, really appreciate the feedback. It's nice to have this forum dedicated to Kershaw knives.

Any new variations of the Leeks? Centafontes or Splinters? As you can tell i realy like them:D
