Kershaw Leek: Titanium and ZDP pics...see them here-FIRST!

There was a bunch of them boxed and ready to go, but I wanted to hold off till Monday.

Well heck, I want to be the only person in the world to carry the only Ti/ZDP Leek as long as I possibly can.;) You don't have many chances in life like that. Does this make me selfish?

Anyway, some lucky dealers will have them next week.

Thomas, who has them. After contacting half of the dealers listed on your website I have yet to find one that even knows what I am talking about when asking about a 1660TIZDP?

This run went to mostly distributors. Country Knives had some shipped as well.

Will the popularity of the ZDP Leek entice Kershaw to make more than just 1-2K of them.

Will it be available in a 1660tizdpST? When I take a "Leek" I like it Serrated :jerkit:

Finally, why doesn't the Blur have an index-open protrusion like the leeks, bumps, cyclones, ets. I accidentally ran my fingers up the blade of my blur one day  and decided that I like the protection of the finger guard/index open protrusion!!

KERSHAW ROCKS! GOD BLESS THE USA!

I don't think so. I've come to feel that the Leek was not the best project for this steel.

Sorry, no.

The flipper was not part of Ken's design on the Blur. Hope that cut healed quick.

Welcome to the forums Jeremy, hope to hear more from you!

Just checked out country knives web site. All products are going for 100% msrp:thumbdn: . No listing for the ti/zdp leek.

Thomas,
I have been faithfully following this thread from the start. I am curious to hear why you don't feel this was the best project for ZDP. I am on a list for one, I hope I get it. It doesn't sound like there will be many made. Thanks for keeping us all so informed.
Jason

I'm very curious also. I have one on order. I'm used to the steel from having several spydercos and have found no bad surprises there. It's not as brittle as some think in my experience. Brittleness isn't why some blades are laminated either. Only companies ( such as yours) with lasers can cut full width blanks. It is an expensive steel though. Joe L.

Well it is just my personal feeling with the Leek.

The Leek is a cutter, and the blade shape lends to lots of fine detailed uses of the tip. I am a bit concerned that users may utilize this Leek for jobs it's not necessarily intended for.
I trust that those that end up getting this knife understand that the Leek has limitations, and is not designed to do anything but cut.

I expect my comment is nothing more than me being a bit paranoid, being this is our first knife in ZDP and all. Personally speaking, the ZDP Leek I have been carrying has held up really well, has become my edc and the first knife I go for. I’m a bit edgy, cause I want you all to be really pleased with them, and also want you all looking forward to future ZDP projects from us as well.

So to summarize, the steel has had some big hype, which I believe it lives up too. Hopefully the user understands it (ZDP) has been incorporated into a category of knife and blade shape that is not designed to take radical abuse.

Make sense?

You mean I can't stab oak trees and throw it in the side of the barn?? Aw Gee, Wally:grumpy:

YES!!:D

Since I saw this thread and Country Knives is my "local store", I called Brian and reserved two. Thanks for the heads up!

Unfortunately, although Brian is a VERY nice guy, and carries ALOT of VERY nice and tough to find stuff, he pretty much ALWAYS charges retail. This is one of the few times I thought it would be worth it. They do not do a whole lot of 'netailing, and mostly work with walk-ins and people they have established relationships with.

Will there ever be a Leek in something like 154CM?

It seems like Kershaw went from one extreme to the other with the blade steel, but what about somewhere in the middle for the average joe that wants better steel than the regular leek, but not as nice (or expensive) as the one were talking about.

Yes, completely. Thank you for the response. I have a feeling things will turn out well for Kershaw for setting the bar ( for everybody) a bit higher. The ELU's will benefit in the long run as other makers struggle to introduce models to keep up with the newest and best knives.

If you have complaints with this sprint run and you do decide to use the steel again or make it a regular production item ( like S60V was in the avelanche) you could include a warning paper about the shock danger with this steel ( if there is one) with the knives made with it. Recall that has been used by benchmade to get the consumer used to rust problems encountered in high carbon stainless steels as opposed to the old "surgical" stainless steels. I don't think it worked adversley for benchmade as they went on to become very successfull. I still have the old boxes the Gin 1 and ATS 34 blades that came with the warning with original paperwork.

It's a flippin ZDP 189 and Ti framelock! How could it not be a success?

Still waiting for mine though Thomas. We will complain if we can't get them. :') Joe L.
