Kershaw Mini-Cyclone Ti handles and ZDP189 blade

Gene, you may well be right, I was hoping it would arrive today, but looks
like Monday's the ticket, also ordered both the coarse and fine dmt diamond
stones, that will help with the ZDP-189 sharpening I think!
G2

The coarse and fine DMT's will speed up rebevelling and removing any dings caused by staples, but ZDP-189 loves regular waterstones from makers like King, Norton, and Shapton after the grunt work is done and tree-topping sharp is desired.

Hey Thom. How's the EdgePro's 600 stone on the ZDP?

Yippee, arrived today, wow, that is a knife, if someone hasn't bought one yet
get on the stick and pick up a Junkyard Dog II, very very nice solid knife!
Happy camper here and Gene, yep, it would make a killer food prep knife!

hey Gary, hope your new steel fix ties u over 'til u get the Krein regrind.... can't wait to see PIX of your JYD2......I was more than satisfied with my factory edge of the JYD2.....adequately "thin" for my tastes..... :)

Yep, it be sharp and fairly thin as well, very nice, smooth opening and solid lockup
what more could you ask for? G10 scales that are drilled with a matching pattern on both left and right hand side! very cool, the liners are cut out
inside to aid in reducing weight, all in all, an amazing deal at such a price!

Looking at this you wonder how the other knives can cost so much more,
or, how did Kershaw miss a number in the price ;)

Very well done and the clip, while I'm not a clip fan, it's an eye catcher to
be sure, but, it also dissappears when you go to grip the knife, doesn't
appear to hinder the grip at all.

And yes, this will help curb my hunger for my reground blade wait ;)

Nice knife!

Just got home from a trip to Trinidad and the box was waiting
with my freshly reground blade for my Kershaw Mini-Cyclone with
zdp-189 blade and Ti handle.

Tom Krein did an excellent job on the regrind, this blade is extremely
smooth cutting now, ground down nice and fine, too late for photos
today, will add some later but, it was worth the wait on this blade!

Thanks again Tom!

Thanks Thom, it's great to be back! but I'm on the road again tomorrow already! :(

First, here is a shot before the knife was sent off to Tom;

G2 how hard was it to remove the thumb stud. I'd like to also get a Cyclone reground. I've got an email sent to Tom.

In response to this question, I don't have a press at home, but when I got in
late, had to put it altogether right away ;) So I figured that I could use a
C-clamp and I used a box end wrench as a well for an opening for the thumb
stud to be pushed into as I turned the C-clamp handle, worked great, very
easy to control too.

Gary,
Does it fire any harder now?? Just wondering if lightening the blade makes a difference?

Tom

That's awesome, Gary and Tom! An Onion-designed blade with a Krein hollow-grind and soon-to-be-sporting G2 convex edge just gives me pause.

Tom, it does seem to snap a bit faster, but, it's really tough to say without
another one on hand to compare.

And Thom, the edge Tom put on is sharp! like it as she sits, cut up some very
thick shoe leather, easily I might add and still razor sharp.

Tom Krein does it again! Very nice looking blade there, Gary. As the owner of a few Krein regrinds I can definately vouch for the increased cutting ability and the tremendously sharp edges he can put on a blade. It's hard to believe that he gets them so sharp with a 600 grit finish. You should also find the blade much easier to sharpen now, also. Let us know how it performs.

I have 2 knives that I need to ship off to Tom for regrinds right now, with 2 or 3 others that I may get reground in the future (including a standard Cyclone). But what I really want is one of Tom's Ultimate Capers!

Mike

Funny you should mention that, as I just ordered one of those from him
the other day, in CPM3V, I was thinking stag, but that's a bit more for
those scales, also I asked if he'd not put the notch after the edge for me
as that is a pet peeve of mine, but the shape of that blade looks very
useful to me, always has, finally pushed in the order.

G2

Stag, elk or sambar, can be beautiful, but shouldn't you be asking for bark mammoth ivory?

You are a Psychic! As I was thinking more and more about that too, price tag
will be high no doubt but, have to think on that some more, he has to get
some 3v in yet. it's weird when I read the post that you mentioned that! :)
