Kershaw Tilt...again.

The kershaw rep I spoke to said 'early July' though only Thomas can confirm or deny these statements.

Well, i'm just waiting for the e-mail from kershawguy at this point. Hopefully we'll all have our Tilts in hand before late July.

I don't know that might have been a deal breaker .then again I really want to try this secret secret hush hush vanax 75. The o777 I might be taking off my preorder list though .why use n360 in a four hundred dollar blade when it has less wear resistance then n690 and equal to 440 .that's one I really don't get and hope changes before they start making them

I remember reading somewhere the steel which is the spine sometimes won't work with all steels. Does that make sense? And what I'm repeating might be hearsay.

No secret hush hush that I know of. Did you compare V75, and N360 steel spec's? Your thoughts on the two?

Why? N360 is a new high end offering for the knife community, machines like a dream, worked well in a CB environment, has extreme corrosion resistance, and is ZT tough.

Hope that's enough, and no, no changes will be made.

I'm getting both, as well as the 0561 flipper. Try not to get too sucked into the steel obsession. You have to consider the design of the knife and the task in mind. While the 777 is more of a luxury item, I would expect it to be able to handle a certain level of hard use given its release under the ZT name. A high carbide steel with 9% vanadium and 20% chromium isn't something I'd expect to hold up to hard use without chipping, 3rd generation PM or not.

Recently, I've also been faced with the undeniable fact that edge geometry and proper use of a knife for an appropriate task is more important than steel. My Dozier Buffalo River Hunter is made with old D2 steel(non-PM) but seems to cut as long as my S90V Para2, at least in that I haven't sharpened it since I stopped using my Edge Pro about a year ago.

And I managed to instantly dull my custom Phil Wilson South Fork with M390 at Rc 62 by cutting super thick cardboard(about a full inch). It wasn't so much wear as opposed to cutting something so tough and thick with a super thin edge, which resulted in a rolled edge(also means that steel is freakishly tough even at Rc 62).

Don't let chemistry alone fool you. Bohler makes damn good steel and N360 would blow 440C out of the water any day of the week:thumbup:. In any case, we'll know whether the steel is up to snuff when I get the knife in my hand and use it. Then you can go ahead and buy it at overinflated 2nd market prices:thumbup:.

Yes, they have to heat treat similarly or else either one steel will end up being brittle or soft as butter. Though I'm not too crazy about the use of CPM-D2 with Elmax or M390, as it rusts pretty easily.

Good comeback...

Though thinking back, from the CATRA results that Sal Glessar posted, both ZDP-189 and S90V made 1200 cuts in silica impregnated cards, meaning that their performance would be the same, at least on paper. But real world use says otherwise.

Thomas answered the wear resistance argument back in the 0777 thread. There had to be some compromises in using a new steel. N390 has much higher corrosion resistance and is 4 times tougher than 440C at the same hardness. Both seem like worthwhile traits in a ZT.

I'm hoping to have at least one by the end of the month. That would be great. I'm pretty patient when it comes to knife releases, but this one has had me figuratively clawing at the walls. I really want my Tilt.
