Kershaw whiplash? any thoughts?

Glad you like it. Make sure that you beat the crap out of it to prove all the haters wrong. I'm sure it will stand up to abuse. Try to baton real knotty wood to put torque on the blade, just so people don't think you're babying it.

I did some looking around and I found that the Whiplash looks a lot like the United Cutlery def/tac knife. The U.C knife came out first, but is also more expensive. I would let this one pass by imho.:thumbdn:

Thanks for the input. Have you actually read this thread at all? The whole thread is basically about judging or not judging the knife by it's look. Good contribution though.

I can't find the United Cutlery knife you are talking about can you post a picture or a link please?

Bashing the Mafia, when you have to resort to making fun of a family, you are grasping for leverage, proving your point is irrelevant.
As far as Kershaw vs Spyderco, a Spyderco fanboy tried to explain why round holes are superior, then the thread spiralled down from there.
We have a "name" because we're an organized "family". The others, not so much.
Thanks for being the internet police.

mike

The "internet police," eh?:D The 'Forum Feds' vs. the 'Kershaw Mafia' lol. I was trying to illustrate how moronic it was for a certain pot-stirring poster to liken Spyderco fans to 'mall ninjas' when his compatriots call themselves a 'Mafia,' that's all. When you locate Don Spydercoleone of the Spyderco Syndicate, be sure to let me know.

3G, don't even make comments about the Spyderco Mall Ninja thing. I was told Mall Ninja is psuedo-military stuff. I questioned how he could bash one knife for having military in it's description as he openly endorsed a product with the name Military. I find it hippocritical of him.
Don't call any of us pot-stirrers, you are frequently a pot-stirrer in most all controversial threads I read. You are always in here kindling fires and putting matches under peoples seats.

Don't you mean hypocritical? So you went somewhere and got the scoop on being a mall ninja. What else did they tell you about that pseudo-military stuff?

Typically my grammar is good, it's late, quit bring a troll. You're not my teacher, or my boss, so go find someone else to critique.
You know who taught me about Mall Ninjas? YOU! YOU said fake military stuff is Dark Ops and Mall Ninja crap, yet you endorse a product fitting your criteria. I don't believe the Military is Mall Ninja, but according to what you've been preaching, it is.

SO YA I GOT DIS NIFE AND LIEK IT CUTS STUFF AND YOU NO ITS SHINY.

Just thought i'd make this thread more rediculous. It is beyond being saved. Like seriously this is crazy. My mind is blown at how serious people are over the webernetz.

Random points though:

the Whiplash is cheap

it has an interesting feature

it comes from a reputable manufacturer

it looks ugly

I don't know why i'm posting this.

I no longer care about the world

Great, now you've made somebody suicidal. I hope you are happy.

haha I'm not suicidal but this thread sucks.

"That's just, like, your opinion, man."

ABA, with the way YOU stretch things, I'm surprised you don't EDC a Spyderco Stretch. However, I imagine a Kershaw Blur is equally as fitting for ya.;)

Those are some good jokes. I'm really hurting, maybe I'll go troll some other threads to ease my pain, it obviously works for some members, it must work for me.

Ha ha, I just read through this thread and thats funny but true. I gave a quick look to this knife when it first came out and thought it was funny looking and moved on. However after a second look thanks to this thread I am

considering buying it. The price is great and it will make a good beater knife for the garage tool box and miscellaneous yard work. Maybe I'l hang it up in the garage for quick and easy access when I need something sharp.

After all it's a Hawk designed Kershaw, and like Thomas said the price of this knife tells me what to expect of it. Just a good basic knife good enough for general purpose work. Any one who uses this knife for any thing other

than cutting and breaks it shouldn't complain. If you are going to dig, use a shovel if you are going to pry, use a pry bar and so on. If you want a good hard use knife go spend some $ and buy a ZT 0100 and stop

complaining. ;)

Thats my 2 cents worth for the day.

I don't think Dark Ops could hold a candle to any Spyderco (or Kershaw) product. Except maybe the Whiplash.

I'm sure the name "Military" is so totally like military, ya know? It's perfectly shaped for zombie decapitating and comes with cool features like a lanyard hole. AND IT COMES IN BLACK! ZOMG!

The Military is a quality knife, not mall ninja crap.

While we're on it, let's pull apart another one of your juvenile posts:

If the Civilian was designed to be LEO only they could have made it... You guessed it... LEO only. They can restrict who they sell to.

Yeah they could, or they could just do what they've done instead of getting bashed on the forums for making a non-illegal knife unobtainable to collectors.

Why are you so determined it's for Mall Ninjas? Are you going to call Striders Mall Ninja because try have OD green which is a military color?
If you're average mall ninja could afford a strider I might, but there is a difference between military knives and mall ninja knives. If you have half the brain I think you do you would have figured that out by now.

If Military styling is Mall Ninja, why do you endorse a knife by the name of Military that is available in digicamo. Is that Mall Ninja?

No, you're logic is flawed beyond the point of argument.

According to your criteria, your favorite knife is the most Mall Ninja/ Dark Ops I've ever heard if. (In reality it isn't but your definition classifies it as one.)

See above. My "criteria"? What a joke. :)

To whomever ends up with this knife, I am wondering if the main feature of this knife, the hide-away/wrap-around lanyard, would have been at all hindered by filling in the bottom part of the notch, just above the choil, so as to lessen the appearance of the possible weakness of the blade at that point? Can the lanyard be inserted into the notch, as if it were merely a hole in the blade tang, or does it, in order to function correctly, need to be pulled up and into the notch via the choil? Thanks in advance.

like Thomas said the price of this knife tells me what to expect of it.
I really don't now what to expect by the price. Something like 1075 or 5160 are cheap and dead easy to HT steels, and can have excellent toughness for cutlery, imo. All steels have to be profiled and ground into a blade, and I don't think a single person in this thread has shown any concern over the wear resistance which is controlled lot by alloying content, where the element cost and production effort ramp up price.

Basically, I don't know why a cheaper knife would under perform in toughess or basic ergos, maybe in sheath design or handle material quality. Who has broken something like a CS Bushman, that's pretty cheap, cheaper than the Whiplash. Who has broken a <$35 small prybar? I just don't see where cost comes in, it didnt make it cheaper to produce the knife by adding the notch, and that is the only thing that makes me feel the knife lost strength in it's design as opposed to just not having the feature. This knife could be made out of S90V with CF scales, cost ten times as much, and I would think it was probably even less tough because S90V is not a tough steel, though I don't know how it compares to 8Cr directly. I do feel that if it were regular Q&T 1084 at 58 Rc it would be tougher than S90V and absolutely cost less to produce.

So no, I don't know what to expect from a $40 knife, by price alone.
