Khuk Kollection & Khuk Rack Konstruction

Walnut checkers real nice too. That's a lot of checkering bro.

I do believe it's gonna work splendidly. I was concerned you'd have to have shorter blades up top but I think the set up will actually work regardless.

Excellent design.

Thanks for the compliment, Kamidog, but this is child's play compared to your dog house. There just happens to be one spare notch on the rack---one for another custom khuk.

I've made a few rifle racks and them handle notches are no simple task. Getting them laid out right and cutting them is challenging. Looks like you done a perfect job, everyone a mirror image of the one before and after.

Much better than the ones I did as I recall.

I guess you're not done with HIKV yet - looks like you've got more spots in your rack than you need for the khukuris you showed at the beginning of this thread :encouragement:

Starting to look like it is going to enhance the Khuks as well as displaying them in an easy to grab when needed way. I do believe that is going to be very nearly perfect display of beautifully sharp objects. I think aside from the checkering there is going to be enough space on say one of the cross pieces to do a nice engraving of an HI logo or something equally meaningful.

Great-Grandkids---ARRRGH!! They finally left!! My hair's turned white over night. Oh! What fun we had on the blacksmith shop's porch swing at 10 above. Thought I'd never get back to work. At any rate, the rack is assembled at this moment and tweaking has begun. Khukuri handles are various sizes and that fact requires different sized notches to accommodate the handles. No more nice, evenly matched notches. The M43's handle is the thickest and it requires a wider notch towards the top. The Chainpuri's handle is quite narrow and so that notch can be narrower than the rest, blah, blah, blah.....I believe you can see what is required. Have four more to adjust to my satisfaction. The slots for the blades are lower than the notches for the handle and seem to hold the khuks in place reasonably well. The little Satans, er.. Grandkids haven't had the opportunity to thunder across the floor above yet to create an earth-quake high enough on the Richter Scale to prove it definitively though. Time will tell. Have decided not to oil this. Since it will live in the shop and is made from 100% scrap and recycled screws, it's not pristine enough to grace the Queen's Reception/Royal Ballroom upstairs, so I'll shoot it with clear spray paint. That'll last me the rest of my life. Must do more sanding yet. The thing is actually quite sturdy and I am pleased with it. The lower Khuk is 20" and that should give you an idea of it's overall size. Here are four photos taken a while ago and they'll be the last I post on this project..

Looks super! And all the blades are level, you must of done some accurate calculating, it all worked out.

I think we should still see a all done photo with all the slots filled. I know, I know, I never get enough, I always want more.

Really fine way to store and display your khuks, great job there Bookie.

May not be good enough for the Queen's Reception/Royal Ballroom upstairs. But certainly too good for peasants like me! I have to say that I think this is brilliant and if I ever get to the point of being able to do some wood working I just might have to try to make something similar. Mine of course will be more fitting for use in a hovel as appropriate to my lack of skillset :D Something the pigs would be embarrassed to be seen close to :P But I am sure glad I have such a fine example to work towards. Well done! But you need 1 more pic of it fully loaded so we can see where the IBBB goes?!?

Dang nice job Bookie! Well designed and purdy! That design would work well as a tripod too long as the grandkids aint around. Cool mill!

Shav, let's not talk disparagingly about Pigs. I was one, you know--you can look on the website. Yes, one more pic is in order because I forgot to put the shelf at the bottom for the IBBB w/PP. Figure that last one out, Kamidog! And yes, I know hovels. Now of days they're called "MAN CAVES".

A lot of difference between your ordinary pig and a Razorback. I come from a long line of pig farmers in Missouri, spent many a morning trapped in the corn crib until my granddad thought to come looking for me. When your 6 and 7 some of them pigs can be mighty big and ornery too.
Not near as ornery as a Razorback on the prowl though.

I'm thinking I don't need to buy a vowel, I'll try for the win. PP= Pugs Pants?

Do I get to claim Vanna White as my prize?

Razorbacks you say? Watch for about twenty seconds: http://youtu.be/gMFSvitV3jM?t=6m9s

Man that came out great man, your skills are never ending, and so is your toolbox, dang you have some serious tools man.

Haha great job mate! What a beauty! Gotta agree with pugs, you have some serious gear man. My man cave is seriously lacking in the heavy machinery department. Needta work on that :)

Dan, you just need to go near Sofala or Hill End, do a little fossicking, cash it in, and spend your earnings. You'd have so much free money that you could have them put double beet root on that double cheeseburger. A nice beef mince pattie (needs a bit of Vegemite, too, you know) or two, a couple of Tooheys Red Bitter with your feet kicked up, mate, life doesn't get much sweeter!
