I just don’t figure hoback’s are something most people can afford, and if they do they aren’t using them to beat on them.
Agreed, that's why the Adamas was my choice.
But if that's what I had on me I wouldn't worry as it has a very solid build quality if I needed it for a demanding task.

I'm not that familiar with Hoback: what are the normal msrp listings for them?
For the larger blades, 500 and up usually.

I think most well built folders will hold up fine (maybe some more so than others), mine have when I've used them for jobs that I would not use something smaller/thinner/questionable on any given task. And for the most part it comes down to the individual using whatever knife/tool to know what they're doing. If the task is to much for a folder, then yes, get a fixed blade.

I gotta mention something on value here I think someone alluded to earlier: If you keep your eyes peeled and you watch prices, you can snag a 4 max scout dirt cheap. I think I bought one for like $80 last year. That is an INCREDIBLE value.

Will have to say other, just don’t think a folder should be used for what I think is had use.

For me it is an image thing. I think it is easier to carry around a folder than a fixed blade. And have less people have an issue with it.

So when I motorcycle camp I carry the SR1 and then should I need a bit of extra pep. Then I have it.

And on the bike the extra weight cost that comes with that function isn't too bad.

This is a poll that includes a good mix of some hard-use folders from a few brands. Please select the one you most prefer to carry.
I agree and think extrema ratio should be in this mix. Plus the ontario rat 1 has been a great beater hard use knife for years at least for me

The Manix xl should be in here too as mentioned earlier….
For hard use? They're good: but not above average. I question the holding stre gth of their ball bearing lock...
The surface area of the washers, and the diameter of the pivot are...
Not exceptional.

You can question it all you want, a ball bearing will not be going anywhere. In a previous spyderco forum discussion it was settled to take about 600 pounds.

And the xl is bigger.

... Just my personal and very in-expert opinion...
But He did note that the lateral blade movement got more noticeable; after the second batoning exercise.

I'm certainly not saying that the Manix isn't a good knife: I own two of them...

S30V is some pretty good stuff...
But both of mine are carrying S110V under the hood...
