Sorry for the delayed answer.

It is the standard KITH practice to provide a sheath or case of some sort. It can be a wearing sheath, a knife case/pouch, a display case/stand, or other holding/display device for the knife/tool ( assuming such applies). Kitchen knives should have some sort of safe blade cover for shipping, but don't really need a standard sheath. The sheath/display type, and whether handmade or purchased is up to you......but there should be something.

All that said, if a sheath/case is not possible for you to do, it is not the main ingredient of the KITH. I have received knives wrapped securely in several layers of cardboard and duct tape.

I have received the info from some of you folk , but , there are many on this thread who have posted "I'm In", but haven't sent me their info. That won't stop you from being in as long as I get your info by the Nov. 15, "I'm In" deadline - but it makes it a lot harder on me to keep track of things until then. Without the info you will receive no monthly updates and reminders beyond the ones on this thread ( and any new KITH threads). So ,while it isn't required to get started on your KITH knife, it really helps with the book-keeping and also adds to the excitement of those in the KITH to see how many are participating. Soon I will start an "Official KITH List" and update it as the info comes in. If you are on that list, you will receive all info and reminders.
