Kith 2010

Well along means that the knife will be easily done by late November.

This year there will be no exceptions. If the knife isn't done ( preferably with the photo posted), by December 1,....you won't be in this years KITH.

You should not be thinking, "Now, where did I put that bar of steel that I was going to use for this years knife. I really should get going in a week or two."

If its not too late to enter I will have a knife made and boxed ready to ship by 12/01/2010.

After not participating the last two years - I'm in! I have a knife made and will make a sheath for it by Dec 1, 2010.

You know I really want to get in on this someday, but I just don't feel that I am at the level of the other makers here yet. Maybe next year, but it is still great to see what others are making:thumbup:

Dude you are more than good enough,Jump in.

Unk, grab one that you have ready.. you know you have one, finish it up and give it a sheath. If I can do it, you sure can.

Everything that I have finished right now has had some hard use on it so it is not at a level that I would want to give to someone, and the ones that aren't finished wont be finished in time thanks to the recent elbow surgery. I don't start strengthening it till next week and the doctor already told me that knife making is a no no till I am 10 weeks out of surgery, that puts me around December 6th before I can do any work on them again.
I am following the doctors strict orders this time because I have been dealing with the elbow problem for over 2 years now. Its all okay though like I said I enjoy seeing what everyone else is doing and it just means that next year my knives will be that much better. I actually have a couple of designs that I have kept under wraps for the occasion. I do have to go run around the bush this winter to find just the right material to make one of them, and I have an engraver lined up to do some work on it too, so it should turn out to be something special.

fair enough, get better then, I'm sure there will be another one along shortly.

Thank you I take that as a true complement, even if I think I can do much better then I have so far.

If you ever stop thinking that way, you might as well stop making knives... ;)

Too bad you couldn't get in on this one, hope you heal well. This can be the "design phase" in your knifemaking career, bro.

I'm in, I will make a knife by Dec 1, 2010

First year

Thank you for putting this together.

I'm in once again. Knife is finished. Will post photos shortly.

Thanks for hosting this event again.

A little suggestion for future KITH's (maybe even this one)

Why don't we make it a celebration of makers AND a learning experience. We are constantly trying to evolve our art. This is a chance to have fellow makers look over our work and give some feedback. I would love to hear what folks have to say about my blades.... good or bad. There is no place for ego... we can help eachother.

I would like to see a small review of your received KITH knife. Of course we are all at different levels in the game so it only makes sense NOT to rip apart eachother here. Maybe something simple like...

State five (5) things you like about the piece.

Mention one (1) thing that could be improved upon. (if you can't find anything, perhaps suggest a direction/challenge for a future project.)

Just throwing that out there.
Rick

Actually, yes, that is a good idea. Its always nice to know how a knife is received.

I too would appreciate feedback on my piece. Like many others I really want to improve so this would be a good idea as far as I'm concerned.

After the knives are shipped, I set up a thread that is called "Woo-Hoo My knife Arrived". That is where the recipient posts his comments and photos about the knife. I usually suggest that any major criticism be left out, and mostly the good comments be made......after all this is a gift exchange.

I am sure you all had/have an Aunt or Uncle that would make some negative comment about your gifts. Even though it really didn't bother you....it did. Lets leave the joy in this KITH exchange.

For those who would like to help the maker grow, send them an email or PM ,with positive and helpful suggestions and critique. Also, follow the maker in his/her future knife projects posted here with suggestions.

That makes sense, Stacy. What is a flaw to some may be intentional to others. I'm good with keeping any invited critiques private.

I'm pretty darn excited.

Rick
