This is the place to post photos and comments about the kith knife you received.

Other notes:
If you have received your letter, mailed your knife, or received you knife...... be sure to email me at , sapelt@cox.net , so I can keep track of all the knives.

I want to say how well this seems to be going so far. The purpose of the dates and way it was done was to have all the knives arrive in the period right before Christmas. So far it seems to be right on track. According to my records of who has shipped their knife, there should be a lot of happy faces this coming week.

Thanks again to all who have participated and for cooperating with the emails to me.

Stacy

I recieved my knife yesterday from Robert Silver. Robert Silver ? Who's Robert Silver I was asking myself :o. Of course I was attempting to open the box on the way back to the house LOL. No waiting for Christmas Day here :D

On pulling the note from the box I noticed it was signed Butch. I then of course knew exactly who RS was. Butch of Butch's Forge fame.

I gotta say, I just couldn't be happier with Butch's knife. This bad boy was obviously crafted with care to provide a lifetime of hard use ! Handling this knife and sheath I automatically get the urge to be camping, building fires, whittling tent stakes and the like.

I absolutly love the style of this knife and I think Butch may have been a little apprehensive about wether or not it would be in the recipients taste. I can't speak for everyone but personally I'd take this knife over a Busse Combat chopper every day of the week and twice on sunday ! There's just no substitute for the small details and care Butch put into the making of this package.

I especially appreciate the Caribou handle, poured pewter buttcap, and the peened copper rivets on the sheath. And who wouldn't love a handmade caribou concho to compliment the knife !

As Butch said "This-un is a handfull" A perfect handfull I might add. I'd say this was excellent use of caribou giving a full and secure grip which'll come in handy for the hard use shes bound to see amidst all the challenges Mother Nature can throw at her.

Butch, I just love the knife and I've been grinning ear to ear since I opend the package. I will use her and show her off with pride my friend.

Thank You very much ! Josh Dabney

Now lets' see some pics, LOL

I seriously had my eye on that one as well. VERY VERY NICE Use it well. HMMMMM WHO S NEXT

Josh, that is sweet!!!! Hope you put her to some good use!
I have a feeling the post man is gonna think he's being stocked....lol...the last two days I've been waiting by the mailbox, when I see him coming...lol.
Like you, my exchange partner seems to be a lot more experienced than myself, and I'm a little nervous in hoping that he likes his as well.

Bruce,

The thought of cleaning up and changing out of my Family Guy PJ pants did cross my mind, for a brief minute anyway, LOL

Then I came to my senses and said to myself.... Man this is MY christmas present ! Who gets dressed up to open on christmas morning ? NOT me ! LOL.

I figured I'd try to get things kicked off in a light hearted chrismas morning spirit, I mean hey we're all family here right? :)

Nah, the Family Guy PJ's are cool. Wow, what a beautiful knife. Great writeup too, I can tell you really appreciate the knife and the craftsmanship that went into it. The size fits the design, and it appears your hand, perfectly.

I wish I had joined soon enough to get in on this. I have seen so many great looking knives in this KITH. It is almost as much fun just seeing the photos and hearing about the reactions.

Wow, I just got my very first Custom Knife that I haven't made. The package came from Matt Bailey. Beautiful incredible fit and finish. 1084 with curly maple.
Thank you Matt.

Jim, I recently was able to purchase on of Matt's knives, so congratulations on a great score!

Josh, that's a great looking knife. Good job, Butch!!

I'm looking forward to seeing more pictures soon and hopefully posting some of my own (can't wait to check the mail).

Got this little beaut in the mail today...
picture.php

I like it a lot, it has a nice light feel in the hand, was shipped with a hair popping edge, and will be useful for a lot of things. I hope Mr Cantrell knows I'm gonna beat the heck out of this one! This is also the first handmade knife I have ever owned by another custom maker, a nice start to my (inevitable) collection. I'm all stoked for KITH next year now! Details of the steel and handle wood will follow as I have requested them. (note, I got a message from Mike saying that this knife is 1095 steel with a Jatoba handle.)

Merry X-mas all, and nice PJs, Josh...

When I got home, my KITH was waiting! I technically cheated, as I called my wife around the time the mail came in and asked her who the package was from :D.

Here it is:

This is a great little hawk forged by our own KITH moderator, Stacy Apelt. It has an awesome handle of spalted persimmon that Stacy said was probably cut in the 30's and standing dead another 50 years prior to that. It has great character with some wonderful spalting and worm holes (it's been stabilized). Stacy sanded it and hand polished it. The hawk is 4140 forged from a ball-pein hammer. It has great balance, and it's a perfect size. It's the first hawk I have in my collection. Thanks, Stacy, I love it! And Merry Christmas!

Congrats to everyone receiving their knives so far! I have so much anticipation to see what's coming my way that it's killing me. I checked the mail box about 4 times today, and the mail finally came a few minutes ago but sadly nothing other than bills and catalogs :-(

Crossing my fingers and hoping for tomorrow...

Well I got a package today from Andy Roy, AKA - Fiddleback. I "quoted" the picture he took for the original KITH thread so that I would not need to take a new picture of it as it already is in use in our kitchen.

We have slowly been changing over all of our kitchen knives to custom knives I have traded for or ones I did stonworks on. This little "chopper" had a very nice heft and is really comfortable in the hand and will be wonderful for meal preparation. The handle is set high enough to use as a chopper and for slicing vegetables too with great finger clearance from the chopping and cuting boards. It is just wide enough to use to pick up what is chopped with it too so it should see a lot of use.

Pretty well thought out for kitchen use even though it is sold as a belt knife. I have never carried a belt knife as I always carry a good pocket knife or two so this great knife is not going to sit in a safe.

I have already modified the knife block to allow for the width.

I'll give it a good field test.

Here is the knife that I received today from Paul Indelicato (PJ234). It is a very attractive little knife and it is VERY nice for being only his 7th knife.

The blade has one of those really well done finishes that almost makes you afraid to cut stuff. However, that wouldn't be right. So far all I have cut was paper and hair and it cut both of those well. I think I did well this year.
