KITH, WOO-HOO, my knife arrived

Being brand new to this forum I need to say I think I am enjoying your KITH as much or more as all that participated. I love looking at what everyone is getting, I need to look everyday to see what's new. Can't wait to see more pics. Very exciting.
By the way ... What does KITH stand for?

Dave

KITH = Knife in the hat

Old timers used to gather up, each pull a pocket knife out and dump them in someone's hat. They'd mix them up and everyone draw a knife out as an exchange. That's where the name came from.

My knife and sheath arrived also and I couldnt wait until Christmas to open it. Its from Josh Dabney. Its really hard to believe this is only his 5th knife and the first one that bears his "Makers Mark". This is one to keep and cash in on someday when Josh becomes famous. I have admired his work and have been amazed at his talents in everything he persues. The silver wire inlays are nearly perfect and this is only the 2nd time he has done wire inlay work and the first time using silver wire. He made the sheath also which is in itself a work of art.
Thank You Josh! Its my first "Josh Dabney" and I love it.

I have to admit that is a sweet looking knife, especially for it being his 5th. I hope my 5th knife looks half as good as that

Well I got a package today from Andy Roy, AKA - Fiddleback. I "quoted" the picture he took for the original KITH thread so that I would not need to take a new picture of it as it already is in use in our kitchen.

We have slowly been changing over all of our kitchen knives to custom knives I have traded for or ones I did stonworks on. This little "chopper" had a very nice heft and is really comfortable in the hand and will be wonderful for meal preparation. The handle is set high enough to use as a chopper and for slicing vegetables too with great finger clearance from the chopping and cuting boards. It is just wide enough to use to pick up what is chopped with it too so it should see a lot of use.

Pretty well thought out for kitchen use even though it is sold as a belt knife. I have never carried a belt knife as I always carry a good pocket knife or two so this great knife is not going to sit in a safe.

I have already modified the knife block to allow for the width.

Very cool. Those utility blades fall into whatever role you need them for. Glad to see you got it!!

I got my 1st Salem Straub today! (Promethean Knives) This thing is :D Whoa! :D:eek: Good. The curly koa handes have so much chatoyance in them they look a mile deep. The blue liners are cool and the hand forged 5160 blade is razored. I have the naked hand to prove it! This thing is rock solid and ready to go! The sheath is Amazing, Salem's Leatherwork is top notch. and even cooler, it's made out of horse hide! Outstanding work Salem, I'll cherish it and use the heck out of it!

The ONE day that I'm not at the mail box waiting, my present finally came....and may I say that it was exactly what I was hoping to get. My very first custom knife, hand forged by the maker!!!!
I got this little Texas Steak Knife, from Stanley Buzek, in Waller TX.

It was made from 1080 improved plow cable. He even thru in a nice little dvd with pictures of himself in action as well as a little shop tour. Sooooo Cool. The hardware is was made from 1018 and the handle is Sambar Stag. Fit and finish are sweet! Just hope one day mine will be as nice.

Super nice feel in my hand, and since he said it was to be used as a steak knife? Well I guess it's a trip to the store tomorrow for a nice juicy Ribeye to through on the grill....even though it will probably be in the snow...lol.

Really makes me feel bad cuz when I got my name, I already had it in the box and ready to go. I'll have to drop my secret knife santa an email and give him a little info.

Thanks so much Stanley! This is my very first knife, and I will cherish it through the years.

All but one maker has confirmed that his knife has been shipped. So far over half have already arrived. If you mailed yours more than five days ago, and the recipient hasn't posted the arrival, check the tracking. Let me know any problems. I have a list of all who have shipped and who has received their knife.
Thanks again for all your participation.

I am really impressed how well this year KITH has gone. It seames to be just going perfect.

I've checked the tracking, box has been put on a plane 9 days ago. I hope it will arrive where it supposed to go...

My knife is here from James Robertson. Thank you sir !

I must apologize to Andy of Fiddleback Forge. I received your name in the Kith,
it went in the mail today. SORRY it,s late.I had to wait till payday to mail it as. Things are tough in the FOG household, financially speaking.

Mine went out Saturday morning. Running a retail business sometimes keeps me from going to the Post Office when I need to. Shipped USPS priority mail and should arrive at it's new owners house either Monday or Tuesday. It's been a lot of fun participating in the KITH again this year. A big thanks to Stacy for running it and making it go so smoothly.

rusty wheres the pic .

Sorry just got home and took some quick pic's of this fine piece of art from Mr Joe Southerland.
His description of the blade is a 4.5" 3/16"thick ATS-34 blade Cryo'd to a 58-59 rc, with Burl Ironwood handle and green spacers held together with Brass pins.
The sheath is a 9/10oz veg tanned. with a hand knapped obsidian arrowhead on it (which is amazing in it's own right)
Thank you Joe and have a Merry Christmas

No biggie brother. It'll come.

I received mine from Eric Boese(Tec-Sec), and it is a dandy little knife! Beautifully finished with a very nice form fitted sheath, and sharp as a razor to boot!It also came with a Certificate of Authenticity that was was sealed and pressed with Eric's logo, nice touch Eric!
A very nice present indeed! I will post up a few pics when I get home in a couple of weeks.
Thanks once more Stacy for all the work you put into this KITH, and Merry Christmas to all!!!

Rusty, I'm really happy that you liked the knife. Beat it up I made it to be tough. Merry Christmas and hope you have a great new year.

By my records, all knives have been mailed, and all but 15 have arrived. Keep me posted with the updates as they arrive, and for those who aren't sure if their knife has arrived at its destination, track it Monday PM.
