Knife conspiracies, lies, and Deceptions

i own the shop... my wife works there.

it's rather easy to smuggle new knives to the house if they come in a regular stock order, wife doesn't really notice. i'll just set the box to the side, put the knife in my pocket and ring it up when she's busy. get home, toss it in the safe and forget about it.

the real issue is when something shows up in a single small box with my name on it. my line lately has been "i got a great deal on it and we can make a few bucks on this one." it's worked a few times and i'll just smuggle it out later. once i had to put a knife that *I* paid for with my CC in the case at the store for a few hours... she was skeptical that it was for the shop and i had to play it off.

i have used the "this? oh, i've had this" line a lot. after a few years she got wise to it and now no matter how long i've had something when i say "i've had this" she instantly thinks i'm lying.

she doesn't really care what i buy we just have fun playing the "game". she gets anything she wants and i get guns and knives :D

...family member hands me box mail lady just dropped off, I grin, they shake their head and walk away. Repeat every week or so :)

 Yeah, about the same here, it's more fun then real deception, you should see here Betsey Johnson collection :p

Also "You know you're a knife knut when" you read this thread ad instead of being slightly disturbed by it you instead work through all the posts thinking "hey, thats a good idea."

.... i'm waiting to see if she notices the latest watch....

she's getting ready to head to the beach for a week and "needed" all kinds of stuff. who knew you "needed" new bikinis every year... even when you're still the same size as last year.

Wait... your significant others *know* you buy knives?

Haha, mine bought me a pair of Delica4s for my birthday. Needless to say I was blown away.

Mine doesn't actually care about my buying habits. She actually likes to whittle with whatever's lying around, usually my Opinel.

The axe I bought my wife just showed up today (finally!)

Just convert them to the cause as well.:)

I didn't even have to convert her. When she asks me for a specific kind of knife, she gets it ... a boot knife for home, a slasher to tape inside her purse ... not a woman to mess with. :)

Takes after her mother, who carried an ice pick.

I told my girlfriend at the time that the new Sebenza which I had just bought was on sale for $35.00.

Haha this is awesome...I don't even think I could be near by...I would give it away by laughing so hard...I did this with my wicked edge system and the the first round of upgrades and the second... Its just not worth the fight haha

Thanks made me laugh out loud alone in front of my laptop!

great thred ..

pay at store in cash ...keep in pocket for weeks ...prep fruit / open chips in front of the missis and see if she spots it as a new one (another week goes by usually) . after a month i can leave it in plane sight like all the others. then when its finally noticed i can say without lying ...oh this thing ? i got it weeks ago ! ... how many do you have now ? ....que silence / gaze / tumbleweed.
funny also how titanium all looks the same to my better half !

Me and my wife both stick to "do not ask, do not tell" policy. If she asked, I would have to tell her. She knows she is not going to like the answer.

I just explain that I have a problem and I know I have a problem. As such, I have taken charge of my own recovery and I have deemed the best solution is to just let this thing runs its course. I am sure I will get it out of my system soon; it has only been 20yrs.

I totally up front with her. As long as I take it out of my "knife fund" (money made flipping or selling other stuff) and not the "house fund" (money made from the real 40-hr-a-week job) she could not care less. If I can't afford it, I don't buy it till I can afford it. That way, she even likes seeing the new toys that come through.

I use my office address as well.

However, when I do get asked "when did you get that?" I say "I've had that for awhile".

Now days though, the response I get back is  "just admit it, its new".
