Knife Fit For a Rock Musician?

What rock star budget is $125? I am confused.

Are you a rock star, are you trying to find a budget knife that you think a rock star would use?

I think the only constant here would be that these popular stars pride themselves on trying to be unique and wacky. Therefore trying to narrow down what a whole class of rich people trying to strive to stand out would use as a tool would be very difficult. Most probably have cooks, nannies, tour managers, roadies and security that set up their daily stuff for them. They probably dont open many boxes for themselves, or pick out their own clothes and makeup for that matter.

When I tried to search for more pics for your thread last night 99% of pics related to celebrity knife photos had to do with plastic surgery. That should be very telling. On a side note, OJ Simpson is selling an apparently very valuable knife at an auction for 5 million...

Not surprised after reading your words that you're confused. I'll try to help this guy out. First off, most great musicians aren't famous and/or wealthy. Right now as I type some guy is shredding a les Paul or Strat or jazz hollow-body and the audience is loving it, but the rest of the world will never find out about this guy and he will never be a wealthy man. Even with online exposure so many of the great ones don't find mainstream (which equals monetary) success. Lastly, Rockstar is a state of mind. I was a Rockstar last Friday night! Back to knives, I'm thinking my 710 suggestion is the homerun.

Well a certain Emerson would not be too far off the mark as it was influenced by Keith Richards, the Gypsy Jack. I'm a rocker myself toured from 1999-2008, I carry a Southern Grind Bad Monkey. R.I.P one of the Kings of rock n roll Lemmy!

Pretty cool! What band did u play with?

I'm a rock guitarist and usually carry either a Kershaw chill, blackout or asset plus a enlan el-01 for when I'm doing my day job(concrete)

Our group was called Corrupt Souls, all our tracks are on youtube. It was more an industrial/drum n bass type genre and we mainly did live dj/synthesiser type gigs, but the music we made was energetic, aggressive, and moody! I mainly play guitar nowadays just for my own entertainment, love blues based rock n roll. Motorhead is my favorite band.

Emerson for sure. Probably a Super Roadhouse, Gypsy Jack, Commander, CQC-something.

Cold Steel would have to be there. Ti-Lites for the Punkers; Recons/Code 4's for the metal guys.

And customs.

I've owned DPx HEST knives since the original fixed by Rowen--best knockaround fixed blade ever made, IMO. I can see how they'd be OK on a rocker.

I'd bet several of them have Rockfords, or Sebenza CGI's with the guitar on them (I did).

Oddly I'd bet there are a lot of Kershaw's too...esp among the southern bands.

And some of their collections are fabulous.

rock star
noun
a famous and successful singer or performer of rock music.
"a teen-idol rock star"

Cool story bro, but rock star is still very different from great musician. Kenny G might be a great musician but far from a rock star like Axel Rose. In fact, many Rock Stars, pop stars etc probably can't even play a guitar, piano or anything else. You keep telling yourself that you are a rock star though.

Nice dictionary reference...rock star is a state of mind and feeling as much as it is a status. Instead of knocking others on their opinions, why don't you actually contribute something useful to the topic? Or does putting others down make you feel too much like a "rock star" to resist?

You're so off topic I'm surprised the moderators don't kick you off the site. I see so much of them trying to keep people on the topic of KNIVES, and it's amazing to me that people just can't focus. The guy never said he's a rockstar. You're the one who brought it up. He says he's a musician and wants a recommendation. I gave him some.. You however attempt to turn a decent thread into more trash by questioning your own claims which the OP never made. So now let's keep on topic.. I'll recommend a DPX Hest Mr DP or BM 710. Do you have and suggestions? If not I'll speak for the OP and ask you not to post any useless statements questioning who he is professionally.

Thanks for your help :) what do you think about any of the ZT models? Any that might fit the style?

I asked "Are you a rock star, are you trying to find a budget knife that you think a rock star would use?" You missed that post, I guess.

The dictionary reference was to someone else. So is this rock star feeling and state of mind similar to girls being princesses and so forth?
I am sorry, I did not know this was a pretend game, and I have no idea what $125 knife will make you feel like a rock star.
Best of luck.

You're missing the whole point...please just stop. I don't know how the moderators determine who gets kicked, but personally, I wouldn't be surprised if you find out...

Yea man.. if you like Rick Hinderer designs get a 0566. You may be able to find one right at the top of your budget. It's a frame lock which is trendy these days. That's why I recommended the kershaw cryo blackwash as a budget option. It's also a Hinderer frame lock design and you'll be able to see how they are similar. But the ZT is much better. The carbon fiber with Elmax is sick!

The fashion choice of Raybans, Flannel Shirt, and converse shoes sounds more "Hipster" than "Rockstar" to me...

Therefore I would like to suggest a Stiletto. Not only is it "Vintage" but it's also "Ironic" as it doesn't have a comb attached for your beard, or slick back undercut.

Hipsters? Push, try classic :P I've been dressing like that since I entered the music scene over ten years ago, and my father dressed like that before I was born. I like the idea of a vintage looking stiletto, though; just can't find one with a decent build quality :/

I only know one professional rock musician. He's a studio musician mostly and play bass... Guy hasn't carried anything but a balisong as long as I've known him. Very rarely actually uses it, just flips it a lot.

I DROOL over balisongs...too bad I can't own one in Wisconsin :(

Hey all!

So this might be too far into the topic of fashion, but which knife or knives do you think would fit into the style of a rock musician? Leather jacket, flannel shirt, converse shoes, Ray Ban glasses, etc. Any ideas? Pics are always helpful :)

Since when do rockstars care about what's legal? My buddy's carried a Bali for 15 years and they've only been legal in Texas for the last couple.

If you're really concerned though I'd look at a Cold Steel Ti-Lite. Full greaser stiletto look, without that "deadly" spring. Perfectly legal in most places. Stretch your budget a bit and go for the g-10 model with the xhp steel.
