Knife flaws that bug you the most?

Didn't realize being made outside of the USA is considered a flaw. Maybe I'm just not as racist as a lot of members are.

I can't stand blade play or uneven grinds though

Off centered blade, bladeplay, uneven grinds, late lockup, pocket clips that allow more than an inch of the knife to stick out of the pocket, no lanyard hole, and gaps in handle scales. These are the things I hate.

I've been paying more attention to blade grind evenness. I wish it didn't bother me but it does.

Now that I have a Ken Onion WorkSharp I can fix it pretty quick and easy.

Backspacers that are not flush to the handle scales. The obvious exception being those backspacers that are DESIGNED to be exposed.

Also, bolster to handle scale misalignment.

My wanting to buy U.S. makes me a racist? Probably one of the stupidest posts I've seen yet.

Tip down only clip is a deal breaker 99% of the time. Almost anything else I can work out or live with.

Bad blade centering that can't be fixed. Almost all other flaws I can usually find a way to iron them out.

Here are my top 3:

Folders:
1. Blade play
2. Blade not centered
3. Sticky liner-lock

Fixed blades:
1. Uneven grinds as in BRKT knives. Fortunately they are always happy to fix it for free.
2. Handle too thin and/or not contoured on a heavy duty knives as in Swamp Rat Ratmandu and Rodent 6.
3. Handle too short on a heavy duty knives as in Bravo 3 and GSO 6 and 7/7.

For the record: I like BRKT and Survive! knives and I have many of them.

I hate it when I pay $70 for a limited version of a $40 knife (Blue blackwash Skyline) and it comes with blade centering so horrible that it rubs the liner. I haven't carried it since I got it, it's a shame because it's such a good looking knife. I keep telling myself I'll ship it to Kershaw, but I haven't gotten around to that yet :o

As I get older, the things that bother me tend to bother me more but it's fewer things that bother me. I can't stand structural flaws or a knife that won't get or stay sharp. Otherwise, I can live with or fix most issues I run into.

Many things can be cured (e.g. dullness, blade play, off-center blade, tight/loose clip), but one thing that you can't fix is a warped or "curved" blade. I've seen some so bad (even from some of the most popular brands) that they scrape the inside of the handle scales and mar the blade. Completely unacceptable - how they get through quality control is a mystery to me.

Agreed. Supporting workers and companies in your own country (whatever country that may be) is a good thing. It's called patriotism and loyalty.

What really bugs the crap outta me is lock rock. And when folks expect sebenza quality out of a 20 dollar knife, that urks me

Oh yeah, the tip of the swedge having a tiny bur but thats nitpicking

I don't know why most companies can't get jimping right. It's either too aggressive, or very slippery.

There are some knives that get jimping right, but there is no single company (production) that gets jimping right on all their knives.

Wow, thats not even close to being racist. How old are you?

Just because you cheer for your country in the Olympics doesn't mean you are "racist" against all other countries.

I'm Canadian and I'd rather have a USA (or even Canadian) built knife before most other places....

That doesn't stop me from buying knives from other places however. If the knife is built well, I don't care. However I'd prefer it came from somewhere closer to home. This is mostly an economics thing, not racism.
