Recommendation? Knife for dad's bday

Anyone tried this one? Does not seem very high quality, how many years do y'all think it could last, if used for the uses mentioned above?
CRKT M16-14ZSF Bead Blast Blade / Nylon Handle
CRKT knives are just "ok", and I'd hesitate to pay that much for them. Meh steel with average fit and finish.

Go with what you like though and dont let people tell you otherwise

It may be just fine, but you suggested earlier you were not interested in Pac-Rim knives. I believe this model is made in Taiwan.

If you like it, and you think he’ll like it, I wouldn’t let where it’s made stop me.

I can’t work in these parameters. Up the value and go with a benchmade griptilian or barrage. Or a zt maybe. And I am not a benchmade fan but the grip is not bad.

This is a knife I was going to suggest, or else the M21- version, which I think is slightly larger. It’s not a knife I particularly like, but it checks a lot of your boxes.

You might also consider a serrated Kershaw Leek.

I have heard people use the term "Made in China crap" to mean either (1) low quality knives made in China or (2) any knife made in China. No idea which the OP means. Furthermore definition (2) does not necessarily mean "Made in USA", as there are plenty of knives from other countries (that are US allies).

My suggestion is the Ontario Rat as posted in #4 above.

What's the reason for serrations?
Just curious...

I hate them. Imo that makes it less useful, and difficult when resharpening.

None of my user knives will have them.

As mentioned about.....a nice, clean, Buck is probably your Best option.

*Also.... Buy Where you want!
Don't let anyone try to shame you into thinking another place is better, or as good than Where you want.....
Knives are personal.

I know it's probably a generational thing, and that's too bad..... I'm like That as well. I have my preferences, and I define COST differently.....

No, the OP never said anything about PacRim knives. He only said "No China Crap". And "I prefer buying from American companies, not CCP."
Which means The Peoples Republic of China. That's why I suggested the RAT.
The CRKT M16-14ZSF fits the bill too, but it sure looks more "tactical" to me than the RAT.

Sorry for the misunderstanding in semantics. I understand fully the CCP connotation.

Hopefully the china crap is negotiable, things made here are either 50 bucks or 150 bucks...you will open yourself to alot more well made options if you do.

That being said, the only one I can think of right now that fits perfectly is the Kershaw Blur, one of my favorites. You'll have to get the 12C28N one if you want your partial serrations.

If the serration is negotiable, try one of the Kershaw CQCs, they're pretty nice and beefy and some come in D2.

If you're patient enough, you can hunt the forum here for a good deal on one as well, example I bought a half serrated presidio 2 off of a nice fellow here for 80$. CRKTs also likes to make serrated knives and I've seen them go on sale here for pennies.

I'll amend this post if I think of something else, but my brain needs a little more to get going right now (comon its Sat morning).

Good luck!

Edit: if you're willing to pop your budget slightly, benchmade freek and griptilians can come in just under 100$ with everything you need, including serrations. You can also get a tenacious, though that 8cr13mov is not all that good and the shape of it is more utilitarian amd not good for defence...there is one in S35VN but it's not serrated.

If you can give up the serrations, you need look no further than Cold Steel and Buck.
One of the negotiables could be the handle color. Anyone tried the kershaw scallion? It looks like the Blur, but the blade isn't black. It might be lower quality?

Buck 722 Spitfire with a brown handle, made in USA
or Brown Ontario Rat1 made in Taiwan are the 2 best options I can think of that check all the boxes.

For $80 you can get a spitfire from the Buck custom shop with a serrated s35v blade, and engraved... but that could be a 2 mos. lead before you get it.
Those two options sure look great. I'm liking the Spitfire, is it the durable type, that lasts many years?
Same question about the RAT, how long do they last, if used as I mentioned above?
Thank ya!!

I like my Scallion, but it’s not serrated. Also a 2.5” blade which shouldn’t be intimidating. Kershaw’s stuff is a decent value IMO for your outlay.

Can't find this one with the brown handle on their website, could you send a link or tell? Would like to check it out

Doesn't fit all of your criteria, but would make a nice gift within your price range. Victorinox Swiss Soldier's Knife.

Any Swiss Army knife would be a good choice IMO, but this one has serrations. Otherwise, I think a Case or a Buck would go over well, then get him a bread knife for the serrations ;). No pocket clip on any of these though.

You can order it from Ontario's site, just toggle the choices to "Coyote Brown" and "Serrated" The Photo doesn't show but if you put it in your cart it will show "Coyote Brown Serrated".
There are other sites but forum rules don't allow me to post the links.

I have a blue Spitfire in s30v, and it's held it's own. Easy to clean. Developed a slight bit of play, up and down over time/use, but lock is definitely still solid.
But it's a Buck so, lifetime warranty will cover any issues... forever... They still have the best warranty in the business, just make sure it from an authorized dealer...
