Knife for the wife to carry

Were your armed and unarmed students trained in the same styles (savate, etc...)?

Returning to the topic at hand, my wife carries a Benchmade Minigrip in purple, and a SOG crossgrip multitool. Really for tool use only, not self defense. She also carries OC, and her cellphone. The purple handle makes the knife more 'palatable' to her, but it's still a great knife!

they all brought their own training with them (some japanese jujutsu, some karate, etc.) before coming to me.

But by the time they got to me, they were all training the same method (bjj, savate, fma, etc.).

Was this the first time the armed and unarmed students had ever been matched up against one another?

Did they normally spar or fight against each other (either armed or unarmed)?
