My views are generally libertarian leaning right, and I have absolutely no problem with what that marine did, I commend him, and I wish that I could honestly say that I have the ability to do just what he did. Let me help state what you are trying to say mesmdz.

The outlook in the Metro Atlanta area is very anti-gun/anti-knife. Metro Atlanta has a large population that likes to blame others for the squalor they live in. Sadly what will probably happen is that someone will come along and try and
sue this Marine for the death of this pregnant teen. Nevermind the fact she was trying to Rob him at gunpoint or possibly has a past criminal history or drug problem. Good example was when Mayor Bill Campbell was taking part in a lawsuit vs gun manufactuers and cited the accidental shooting of a little girl by her older brother. He kind of forgot to mention that the parents were crack dealers with guns and drugs laying around the house, but yeah it's the gun manufactuers fault. Regardless I am glad the Marine is OK and I can only hope the others involved get punished.

See all that said without coming off like you are racist. This did not happen because they were Black, it happened because they were idiots.

According to the ATL police, there will be no charges placed against the man by the city.

He is not happy about doing what he had to do even though he had to do it to protect himself after attempting to flee. He was confronted attempted to flee, and had very little choice as far as I am concerned.

The local bed-wetting fish-wrap ran the headline yesterday: "Former Marine kills pregnant robber". No wonder the Atlanta Journal's circulation is in the toilet.

I have lived in Georgia my entire life. The 6th generation from the same county and 4th generation UGA alumni. That said, I hate Atlanta from my very core. It has nothing to do with race and everything to do with the "three C's" : Corruption, Criminals and Carpetbaggers.

I am glad the Marine survived, that his will to live prevailed.

I feel no pity for the criminals who attacked him. I'm sure that they weren't driving mommy's caddy on a thrill ride as someone suggested - it's reported that they have been linked to other similar, but successful robberies in the same area.

In my opinion, they got what they deserved, and less than what I would wish upon them...

from what I gathered from another article, Autry was confronted, kicked the shotgun, ran, got his knife, and then 2 of them attempted to tackle him-who he stabbed. I think running away and grabbing the only available weapon after having a shotgun pointed at you is about the best response we could expect from anyone.

Brother, from what I gain from the reports, Autry ran - and was chased by the criminals.

Check the facts - he fled, was chased, retrieved his means of self-defense, and began his defense at contact distance.

What would I do? My magic 8-ball is broken, but I'll attempt to describe my intent by saying that I hope I have the presence of mind to move, defend and communicate. 5:1 are sh*tty odds... not for the faint of heart. I hope I move before I faint.

Deadly force was authorized and present with the criminals exiting their vehicle and making their intents known...

That Autry moved the place of conflict, either accidently or purposefully, was brilliant. He split his adversaries, and improved his odds. He armed himself. He countered when they attacked. He prevailed. There is nothing wrong with that course of action in my opinion.
