Knife in the Hat 2005 Registration Thread

Alright, guys, executive decision time. Here are the rules/criteria from "on high" ( :D ):

1) No monetary limits on KITH2005. I believe in karma/what goes around comes around and we have a good community of folks here, so I don't think anything screwy will happen. If that DOES happen, somehow, then we'll figure something out to fix it.

2) To keep things simple, the drawing is for an edged tool of some sort, preferably a knife, although I don't think anyone is going to cry if they get a tomahawk. Let's keep pens, flashlights and other handmade gear out of it this time/

3) To enter, you will have to submit a functional knife/hawk/whatever. That means a display case or stand or sheath (or all three) for fixed blades, or a folder that actually works. No miniatures or unsuable fantasy knife type things. I think most people agree that letter openers aren't necessarily knives, too, so let's keep them out, too? Functional means fully heat treated, tempered, finished, etc.

4) No kit knives. I know everyone has a different take on this, but the blade should be forged or ground from steel (or Ti, if you specialize on that, but no CF/G-10/non-magnetic blades, please) by you. No kit blades, kits, folder kits, balisong kits, etc. Your steel, your blood, sweat and tears (clean 'em before you send 'em) you know. I've seen great modifications of stock knives, like Eric Blairs "toxified" things, etc, but we're going for "sole-authorship" here, fellas.

Anyone who has entered who gets freaked out by the "no limits" ruling can back out any time, although sooner is better if you want to take a hike. If your name is on the list on November 1 you're in, so get out now if you want to! If you want to organize another KITH with different rules, go for it. I'll just do yours, too! :D

I'm still in but look out. I've got this hawk made for the most discriminating pimp floating about in my brain :)

Ahhh hell ......I am in if you'll have me.

:D Sure! :D

And this is just to fill in the required space so I can post smart-alecky short messages.

$500 worth of 1018 on its way to Dan's house.....

Chop(bang) away at your leisure, my friend....:D

:p

I stayed out of the KITH last year because I knew I'd be in over my head. This year, I still feel like it'll be over my head, but if someone else is willing to take what I consider a well-made knife.....well then....I'm definitely in.

Note: If whoever gets it doesn't like - send it to Dan Gray for testing.... :D :p

I am in if you guys can handle my funky modern style!!! I tried making something that was out of my usual style, tried to make it look old and primative... It turned out modern and futuristic... You deal with what ya get..:)

now that would be interesting

hey I'm not so sure about the $500.00 worth of 1018
can you take 500.00 dollars worth of 1018
steel and make one nice blade with it? :D

Barely  :p

Alan, I don't think I got your email for registration. I think everyone who's taking up my thread's space with their chit chat (just kidding, guys) is registered already except Alan, but remember, in addition to saying here you want to take part, email your BFC name, real name and physical address to me at kith2005@agocschiropractic.com

I'd love to have you in, Alan! I've been a fan of your knives for some time. Do you have your own website still/yet?

I'm planning something pretty special for this year's trade, but we'll see. It's a total departure for me, so it could turn to a dog **** with a handle on it. If that happens, I'll make sure I have a fall back plan in place.

I would love to enter but do have the fear of sending someone something that they would consider unworthy. I have been happy with my improvement and think that I have moved well beyond the sharp metal knife like thing but it is tough to sign up for something like this when you see the list of names that are on board. I haven't even entered the ugly knife contest becasue I want you guys to have a chance to win :p :D

I emailed you but alas have Hotmail and it has been acting flakey as hell lately...

IF you dont get it in the next couple days I will try to remail from somewhere else....

I DO have a website BUT it has not been updated in the last 3 years due to things being sold before I build them mostly...And the fact that I can put things off better than anyone else i know..:) Its www.warrior.org/foltsknives

I will try to resend the email and get myself in the list.:)

Alan..

My Hotmail has been TERRIBLE lately, too. I've used HM since 1994, probably, and never had a problem. What's up with them lately? Jerks. Anyway, I'll count you in and if you could and don't mind it, post your shipping address in this thread and that will suffice. Thanks!

Hey Chiro,

Thanks for putting this together again. I missed participating last year, so I'm excited about getting back into it this time around. Put me down as a maker, and I'll shoot you the email.

I found the website that Steve put together on my server from the first KITH. Knife In The Hat 2002 Everyone can take a look at it to get an idea of some of the knives from the first year. The page contains info about the maker, the knife, and a review of most of the knives by the person who received it. It would be really nice to do something like this again this year, and I'm more than willing to make the space available. I'll probably feature it on my www.blademakers.com site so it will be easier for people to find. (That is if you guys would like for me to host it again.)

Steve, if you are reading this, would you be willing to take over the administration of the KITH web pages again? I'm not sure that I would have time, and you did a great job of taking it over last time.

One of the neatest things to me about this KITH is getting to see everyone else's knives and read the reviews.

NOTE to NEW MAKERS
If you are relatively new to knife making, please feel free to participating in the KITH. Who knows, you may be the next Mel Pardue or Jerry Fisk. I know that I would not mind having one of their earlier knives right about now.
