Knife pet Peeves.

I positively can not stand mirror polished blades. I do not like a lot of writing on my blades. I do not care for tanto tipped knives either. You can also keep the black blade coatings.

People who complain about a design without trying them out (how many of you have broken a properly made hidden/stick tang- none of my puukkos have ever broken in cutting use, nor has my nepalese kukri). Nothing worse than hearing a design is useless by somebody who has never given it the trials to see how effective it is at what it was designed for, and likewise saying that it is useless as a result of using it for tasks it was not designed for.

Indeed. Many people (myself included) have batoned partial tang Moras without any signs of damage, and they don't even have a full-blown hidden tang! I think many people forget that the overwhelming majority of swords were hidden tang...if they can take it there's no reason a smaller blade should have any trouble. ;)

same preferences as everybody else...serrations, tanto, rust from beadblast, huge and heavy folders, overpriced, etc etc etc etc etc

some uniques ones might be...

i prefer liner locks to frame locks. mostly because i dislike metal scales. steel, aluminum, titanium, you name it.

1. PlainEdged or ComboEdged blades:barf::barf:(fully serrated or nothing:grumpy:)

2. Blade Play on a newly bought knife

3. Convex edges( I'll take chisel ground any day because ease of sharpening)

4. Off centered blades

5. Blades that rust after you only look at them the wrong way:thumbdn:

6. Bad fit on a $30+ knife

Assisted Opening.

Why is this even a feature on a knife? Is there a large portion of the knife population that is thumb mobility challenged?

Oh man...you'd be surprised. We get them in the shop all the time. Even after slow and deliberate coaching, a lot of them still can't get it. That's when I walk them over to the AOs. :o

I don't like knives that are better at splitting wood than cutting things. Axes, and splitting mauls are for wood chopping and splitting while knives are for cutting.

I agree. I am rather fond of ones capable of doing both with equal aplomb, however. ;)

I cant stand mystery steels. I don’t mind buying knives with what some would consider to be cheaper or inferior steels but I want to at least know what it is.

-Quality, innovative designs that use really cheap steels that won't take an edge
-I have a love-hate relationship with half-stops. It's nice for closing but a pain when opening
-Poor edge geometry on a new knife. If Rough Riders can come with good edge geometry, you'd think Queen and GEC could do the same
-Sword Proof. It's good for a laugh, but that's about it
-Zytel. I don't know why, but I just don't like it. However, I love delrin. It's so smooth. I find myself just rubbing my delrin-handled knives as a security blanket. It's relaxing.

-- Like many here, I can't stand combo-edges on knives. It's either one or the other to me at least.

-- Assisted-opening knives is a feature I can't warm up to. I understand the inherent benefits of AO's but a manual opening knife is plenty fast for me.

-- Gawdy pocket clips, specifically some of the Kershaw pocketclips.

Good excuse for one of these:

Knives that never get taken out of the drawer and used. [Just for looking at once in awhile.]

DancesWithKnives

- Combo Edges
- Mirror Finish
- Coatings
- Scratchable Aluminum
- Chalky handle
- UN CENTERED BLADES ARGH!
- AO that dosn't open the blade all the way.

High end knives that are not put together well and need to be sent in to the factory upon first receipt of the knife if bought online where you can't inspect them. Uncentered blades that won't center. In a nutshell, quaility control issue. I can control what I don't like about styles and form factors by not buying them in the first place but I can't control getting a lemon knife.

I've had better assembly on $20 knives than I have on many top notch, high end production knives. It's a big thorn in my side.

1. I really do not enjoy combo-edge knives, exceptions being the manix and the military. Spyderco found a way to put just enough serrations to have a decent amount of serrations and still have a useful amount of plain edge.
2. I wish more companies would offer full serrations, Spyderco and Cold Steel are the only ones I know of now and I like full serrations for use around rope.
3. I get tired of people talking about using folders for prying, if you must pry with a knife there are plenty of small fixed blade with great sheaths around so that you can pry to your hearts content and not break a knife.
4. People that talk about batoning with folders irritate me, thats not what they are for, quit doing it, its a bad idea.
5. There is no such thing as a survival or combat knives, companies just use that as an excuse to make 1/4 inch think knives that do not cut very well. Any knife could hurt someone, but guns are much more efficient.
6. The modern semi-automatic pistol put the sword out of business, just accept that. Just like the car pushed the horse off center stage. Machetes have some use, samurai swords do not.
7. There is no excuse for uneven edge grinds. If my 50 dollar china made knife has even grinds then why doesn't my 200 dollar US made knife have even grinds.(I'm talking to you benchmade)
8. steels that are damn near impossible to sharpen, all of them will get dull eventually and I would like to be able to resharpen them with a good old arkansas hone.

Thats all I can think of at the moment

Combo edges
people who collect but dont use
sheeple who cant react positively to a knife
waiting a long time for a knife to come in
