I have maybe 10 knives now, all stuffed in the sock draw, what do you guys use to store your knives? I have a bunch of slipjoints on the way I would like to store nicely when not using, most come with sheaths. Was thinking maybe a spent 50 cal ammo box

If you care about your knives, use something that can't be carried away.

Tackle boxes and ammo boxes... :thumbdn:
A safe bolted to the floor...

I found a compromise, full-sized Craftsman tool chests. Not as secure as a safe, but large enough and heavy enough that no one's going to grab one and walk off down the street.

I am not too worried about security to be honest, just want to keep them safe from moisture. I did think about a safe as I want to keep them away from my little ones (5 and 2)that might be the best idea

I use a lower end gun cabinet that I added shelves to bolted that to the wall. My knives are all stored neatly, securely and safely. And it is easy to find the one I want when I want it

A standard metal gun cabinet (not a fireproof safe) with a dehumidifier sounds exactly like what you want.
Inexpensive and available in a variety of sizes and price ranges.

Nanuk case.

An affordable alternative, if you decide to go with a burglar-friendly carry case, look at the Seahorse/Serpac cases. We use them at work for taking scientific gear in working underground mines. We've never had a failure. Although not as fancy, Seahorse/Serpac costs a fraction of Hurricane or Pelican cases. (I'm not familiar with Nanuk cases)

I should add I have access to ata, skb, gator and custom cases for my day job so I can totally get one of these no problem at min cost.

I only need storage for the knives I don't use regularly. Those knives are in ammo cans or ZipLock baggies, locked in a steel gun cabinet. The knives I rotate carrying or using are kept accessible in drawers and cabinets around the house. I also have several knives used for yard work in a storage building. Even though I live in a hot, humid climate, I don't worry too much about moisture. Some of those knives in the storage building have been there for over 20 years. After using, I wash them clean and spray them with WD40 or whatever other oil is handy and put them away until the next use. None of them have ever shown any signs of damage other than from hard use.

Pelican case for me. Keeps my 3 young kids out, while providing a stable environment for some of the knives that may sit in there for a while....

I just picked up a wooden machinist chest (8 drawer) from HF. I was worried about the fit and finish until I saw it. It's very nice, and it was $79. I have seen them on sale at HF for as low as $59.

You can also look into getting a silicon impregnated gun sock. Cut it to the lengths you need and sew up the ends. They're made to keep guns from rusting, and they work great for knife storage as well. Cost about $5 for a 50" sock, so that should be able to be cut up and store quite a lot of knives.

If I'm storing any of my guns or knives:
Short term, they get sprayed down with CLP or something of the like and put in a silicone impregnated sock. Then they go in the safe.
Long term, they get slathered in grease (bearing grease, or something like that), put in a plastic bag, and then they go in the safe.

Every day users just get wiped down with some oil every once in a while.

I also like to spray out the pivot and internals of my folders every once in a while with wd-40 to displace water and then spray it out with CLP to lube once the wd40 drys out.

I want one of those rolling cabinets, but I want it for my actual tools.

I keep my EDC knives in a cheap Plano tackle box, hidden somewhere in the house. It will easily hold a lot of knives. I need to buy one or two more of them to put my other knives and multitools in.

I use different sets of various grades for different functions. There's a small ultra-smooth cabinet for the benchtop tools in the computer area, a full-size lower-grade 3-piece set for heavy tools in the shop, and a couple different cabinets for the knives.

For knives, I found that simply stacking together several 4-drawer "intermediate" chests was the most suitable and flexible storage system.

There seems to be no limit as to how many can be stacked, so it's a good future-proof system.

I also picked up a 41" table with drawers - the flat workspace is nice and the drawers are tall enough for larger knives, even in their boxes. I can even add a cabinet atop the table but I'd lose the working table top, and I'm worried about the weight causing the entire thing falling through the floor into the basement.

I'd like to see some meth-head thief trying to pull this down the street. Heck, I'd probably watch for a while for the entertainment before calling the cops. LOL.
A hint, I didn't install the wheels. ;)
