Knife storage, what do you guys use?

Small safe to keep the little ones safe. It pulls double duty as a plain black box that perfectly camouflages my knife collection from my better half :)

image.jpg excuse the background the case is currently in my sons room due to the Holidays and family & friends visiting .

we design and produce high end interior products - so i figured i would realize a wall mounted knife display case as a private side project since i always wanted something like it - and there seems to be nothing high quality / knife specific on the market

the photoshooting is scheduled for thursday - pics/thread to follow

some specs:

massive oak panel construction
lockable front door with one piece/seamless security glass / invisible heavy duty hinges
integrated high performance led lighting system - virtually no shadows or unwanted reflections
modular knife attachment system for fixed blades and folders

I did something similar to several of the others here, I bought a Husky tool box from Home Depot. It has several drawers which let me organize and I can lock them to keep the kids out.

I keep my scattered all over the house. Kitchen table, dining room table, various and sundry shelves in the library, office... Drawers in cabinets. Smeared all over the work bench. Dresser drawer., top of the dresser... Glove compartment of the car. Backpack. Camera pack.

...don't you guys use 'em?

😜

I use these:

They're only $55 or so, stackable, and I can add more as needed. I place a small desiccant in each drawer to take care of moisture (get 'em free with most electronics or in bottles of aspirin - but cheap to buy as well). Really works well for me. :)

I keep mine accessible and spread throughout the house. One in my car. A couple in my nightstand, a couple in my camper, etc. I don't have so many I need a dedicated place for them all.

My wife bought me a Harbor Freight wooden machinists cabinet - good enough - I put it on top of a dresser in the bedroom and now I can get to most of my knives just by pulling out a drawer.

Now I have a rubbermaid container full of empty boxes and tubes.

I've also been using an old cigar box with some of those moisture absorbers you always find in a new pair of shoes. I was gonna include a picture or two but for some reason the TapATalk app says that the forums disabled image sharing. Does anyone know anything about this, or how I can share images from the tap a talk app?

I found a nice $80 solution for a smaller collection at Costco. It's not solid wood, but the build quality and finish detail is impressive for that price. Made by Trinity, each drawer is lined with felt, the front cover has magnets in the corners, and there are nice silicone feet on the bottom:

I keep mine in a wooden duck box on my dresser and all my field fixed Knifes are lock up in a larger wood box.

I use a combination of mineral display boxes and vintage wooden wine and cigar boxes for folders. The boxes are pretty easy to come across if you fish the right places. I finish them however I want to, line them with some cheap black Elvis velvet and lay in the knives.

Mineral display cases usually have glass insert tops and can be very nice. You can pull them up easily on Google. Lots of varieties. You'll want something flat with mainly square inches of floor space. The ones between roughly 8x10" to 10x14" or so are the handiest.

I keep the boxes in a vault and have a box out at a time, each holding a week or more's rotation of varying types of folders. I also have some of those desicant packs out of products when I see them and each knife tray has one in it.

I think another good way to go are some of the simple tackle boxes and Plano type boxes with compartments. Seems like a great inexpensive way to store them too. On the higher side, I like seeing the multi-leveled, multi-drawered wooden craftsmen's chests and the rolling tool chests full of nice knives. Some of those are really cool.

I store most of my fixed blades in folding cases unsheathed. All the sheaths are in one place.

I just tossed them all in 2 old bookers wood boxes I have for now, gotta see how things shake out
