Knife Storage

Hey guys,

I'm starting to get serious about collecting and owning knives. I've decided that I want to own Busse/Bussekin and Miller Bros Blades. I have just a small collection at the moment. I was curious what people store their knives in? I know the term "safe queen" is used often, but are a lot of you actually storing them in a safe? Or a padded pelican case? Are you guys storing blades in their sheaths? I just bought tuff-cloth off Amazon and plan to wipe down my blades and then store them. I have a nice little Maxpedition pouch that is padded on the inside and shuts with velcro. I thought that might be a nice home for a special blade in storage. I don't have a lot of money to spend on a case, but was curious what's out there and what is recommended. Thanks for any help and ideas. Pictures always welcome.

I have locking tool chests that have been taken over by my modest collection but they are not dust-proof. Any place that you can secure them and keep them reasonably clean and dry will work. If appearance is important and/or to protect the edges, you'll want enough room and padding that they are not banging together or scraping the container if its metal. Otherwise, you are protecting your box from the edges and tips. I've heard "Don't store SR101 in a sheath as its prone to rust" but if you clean and oil the knife and put it in a clean dry sheath and store it in a clean dry container I don't see a problem. Infi will discolor if stored in a leather sheath that was chrome tanned but veg tanned leather is fine.

a good way to store them is the way they come from the factory. I don't use the plastic wrap, but just wrap em back up in the butcher paper. Also this allows you to mark on the outside (sharpie) the knife description. A quick wipe down with your tuff cloth or oil is not a bad idea. But these are Busse's.... not eggs. They'll be fine. Just hope they don't pick on the the other knives in the safe too bad. ;)

I'm all out of room on the safe wall. Busses multiply like rabbits.

Users live on the wall, queens stay wrapped up

I've yet to purchase direct from the factory...so I don't have the materials they are shipped in. Is butcher paper something I could find locally at a grocery store?

Thanks for the details in your post Pete. That is helpful. I'm going to look for a large padded, dust and moisture "proof" case I think.

Yeah, just white paper with the blade in a cardboard sleeve. They wrap this in saran-wrap for shipping.

^^^^^^^^^Sweet purse you got in there Breavis.... that alligator? :p

.

You are referring to my watch box that holds 5 watches and yes it is alligator.

I had two excellent quality old belts and just decided to cut them unto strips and screw them to the wall of the safe. It's worked great for years

Check out nalpack they do knife storage. I'm converting a pelican 1720 for all of my large fixed blades

You can get 'baking parchment' at a grocery store that will work well. Paper lunch or grocery bags. Construction paper might do it too. You could also try the 'tactical cardboard sheath' trick. Cut , fold and tape clean cardboard to cover/protect the blade(s) from the box and each other.

I use Peg board :)

And I store all my fixed blade knives in sheaths ?

I should take an updated pic :)

I would use a large mechanics chest with locking drawers. And there is no problem keeping blades in kydex sheathes. It is leather sheathes that you might have some problems. Especially in humid environments.

Breavis...who makes that knife just to the right of your TG? That thing looks crazy ergonomic and looks like it would be an awesome slasher and stabber! Unique for sure:thumbup:
