Knife Storage

If you did a large pelican type set up, you could always throw a desiccant in with it to take the moisture out

It was just boxes on the floor in my room, now moved to suitcases in the attic.

I know we are all here for Busse but is that a Nexus I spy in the left chest? (red handle scales) If so your a lucky dog don't see those come up often!

This is very cool.

At first I thought they were in front of back-lit frosted glass...Light/shadow box w/ the lights in the perimeter.? Very nice, did you make this?

Evolution 80? As in a 1340, 45* V-Twin?

Good eye! Yes, I traded in to that Caio years ago.

I have this old Gerstner Tool chest (from the 40s) that I refinished

That chest is terrific. Love the storage arrangement in the drawers. When I say I just have a handful, I mean that- I think 6 blades. Nothing on par with you guys. I went the pelican case route with foam. I'm planning to Tuff-Cloth them, let it dry, then wrap in parchment paper and a cardboard sleeve over that. Really appreciate the suggestions, pictures, and help guys! I hope someday to NEED something as big as this tool chest :). Great stuff!

Hi Terry, when I bought my house there was an ancient, heavy duty freezer in the basement that would have been impossible to move out, even if it wasn't so heavy. I drilled holes in it, for some circulation, and to run a cord out of. Inside I put a small night-light which remains always on, in order to keep the inside temperature a few degrees warmer than the outside temperature, which is all that is required (this is my limited understanding anyways) to prevent any sort of condensation from temperature fluctuations. Whenever I find silica packets I toss them inside as well to absorb moisture. I rigged a lock as well. Most of this is probably entirely unnecessary, but it gives me peace of mind. Getting a little creative can save a lot of money. I coat the blades in Frog Lube because it is completely food safe, and I've seen tests that show it's corrosion protection is quite good. I'm sure this is not necessary either, but I bought some and decided I didn't want to use it on my guns after all, so why not. When I was on vacation, I experienced the one serious rust issue Id ever had, and since have had, and think it may have had to do with putting my firearm in an airtight pelican case overnight. Just a suspicion though. The very best of luck to you, I'm sure this will be a very rewarding endeavor.

I take a woodworking ship on Monday nights... I made this for my Mistresses all from the wood scrap pile! I didn't even realize this cherry was burl until I rubbed on the first coat of finish. She's cherry burl and ash. It's amazing what you can make from someone's waste! The top is glued up from strips left from tablesaw rippings. She smells sooooo nice, a great home for my beautiful Mistresses! Now I have access to them right in my closet...

I keep my safe queens in the safe.

With the knives ranging from $300 to $1900, I don't want to make a crackhead's day with a break-in and grab incident. Also, people (workmen, kid's friends, etc.) through your house can get sticky fingers if stuff is readily accessible.

I use the factory cardboard sheaths and bore store knife or pistol sacks.

Here's one of the knife cases....

I also like to store double cut and satin finish knives in a light coat of Rig +P SS grease.

That's a good plan! Bore store.... just tight for Bussekin! :)

I run a bowling center with an attached cafe/bar. My office is right in between the two. When I'm there and it's open, everyone walks through. I have knives everywhere... The beer vendors love to pick up the big ones and admire them. It does make me nervous! I want to build a display shelf that can be hung from the wall that will display my Mistresses. If someone grabbed one, I would be able to tell. I would also be able to look at them many times a day! I just hate to lock them away in the dark. What if they're afraid of the dark! I also like to rotate my users.

Does anyone keep there knives/swords in a foam padded hardshell rifle case like pelican brand or anything like that? Im curious to know if the knives/swords stay tight fitted inside when closed and being carried or will they slide all over?

Any info would be great on this before I get one. I prefer not to have all my stuff on display
Thanks!

I'm all out of room on the safe wall. Busses multiply like rabbits.

Users live on the wall, queens stay wrapped up

Easy to spot breavis at Blade, just look for the guy at the Busse booth with his pants on the ground ;):p

Seriously though, that's a killer idea cause it minimizes putting holes in your safe door...I'm gonna use this idea, thanks!

I spread them around. I've got 2 small Bussekins with the kitchen knives (haven't heard of break-in thieves riffling through kitchen drawers). Another small one in my office desk. Mistress hidden, but close at hand. AMSMO in backpack. SOB in first aid kit, tucked away. AK47 in a sword bag, along with 3 others swords (in case it gets lonely;)). Sword bag is stored in a dry place, and not easy to get to. All swords have metal parts coated in car wax, for rust protection.

BGASH-1 in gun safe..... Hoping I can get a sibling for it soon (INFI).

....but George's wooden case is absolutely PRIMO. Love WILLIC's box too:thumbup:

.....I just don't want my eggs in the same basket.....:D

Not to worry about my kitchen drawers.......I've got the perfect diversion......liquor cabinet (glass widows) is very close to knife drawers. That ought to slow'em down some :D

....beside.....even if they do open the knife drawers..... So many knives in there that you really need to know what's what.... Hidden in plain sight;)

Gotta ask tho, whatchu keep in your kitchen drawers? Always curious what busse would make a wonderful kitchen knife besides the elmax steak knife and a thin nick

I've got a Scrapivore that's pretty good as a small kitchen utility knife. Also great to open bottles. R3 to slice and chop small veggies. I don't let the lack of thinness get in the way of many tasks. The knives are sharp, just adjust the angle of your slice. There are certain foods that require very thin blades, but for most tasks, Bussekins will do well. Heck! I've sliced tiny tomatoes with my NMFBM, Scrapizashi, and AK47. Actually stripped and quartered a pineapple with the Scrapi. You'll find heavy knives (choppers) great to prepare pineapples. I chop them up in small pieces to serve up in bowls.

I've used the R3 to make steaks out of a large piece of beef. Ok.... Could have used my NMFBM for that (longer blade), but the R3 surprised the heck out of me!

One task that I won't use a Busse for, is slicing mushrooms. The thick blade will often crack the shroom slices.

As someone who's been burglarized, I recommend that everyone put **ANYTHING** of value (jewelry, guns & ammo, all paperwork like insurance/tax/house/business, Bussekin, etc) in a locked immovable device that cannot be opened with a heavy crowbar or prybar. A safe is a decent start. A safe that is cemented & framed into the structure is better. Hit 'n Run thieves will find what you consider hidden & take it. IIRC average "in & out" time is 5-7 minutes. In that short time they can trash your house and locate/steal stuff in obscure locations you think are "safe". They're not.

Noxious, Bussekin can be recruited for kitchen veggie duty and do a passable job, but are not the optimal tool for the job. (Says one who has used them in the kitchen often enough. ;) ) They will take a backseat to good thin dedicated kitchen slicers. The operative words are "good thin". Not a wally world $15 chef's knife. A blade that will cost you a Franklin or two or three. And a knife with a spine thickness of 1/16" +/-. Skinny Japanese kitchen knives can slice 'n dice veggies all day long like cuttin' air & not wear you out. In the kitchen, Wauseon bruisers come into their own busting up animal parts & other cleaver & crunching applications.

OP, best place to store your Bussekin is in your hand while beating the tar out of it.
