I started with a Becker bk2 and read everything I could find on it, it is what led me to bladeforums. When I first bought the bk2 It was the most expensive knife I had ever purchased, previously I just bought knives from the PX on base.

Now I purchase blades costing 10x what my gateway blade costs.

So what knife led YOU to bladeforums and to more expensive knives?

It's an amazing journey looking back at my knife spending habits and what I used to think was an astronomical price for a knife.

Good question,

For me it was the griptilian 551 somewhere in 2013. I'm up to my ass in knives now. Went through a ZT period, a BM period and a short Spyderco infatuation.
Finally i found out that i really love Cold Steel. And allmost 90% of my current folders are by Cold Steel. For fixed blades i have my Esee's. I like rugged no frills designs.
Visiting this forum also made me a sharpening guru!

Still drool over all the exotic stuff, and have a long list of wants!

Not sure, I was collecting before I found the forums. My first one influenced by BF was probably the Spyderco Native.

Was there a knife you were researching that led you to bladeforums? That's how I found this awesome place, I had many knives before but the bk2 is the first I researched extensively and ultimately what got me started here at bladeforums.

Nice, sounds like we have pretty similar taste in knives! It progressively gets more expensive lol

A CRKT M16-04 (pre LAWKS) got me into quality knives. Searching for a sharpened folding prybar led me to BF... Buck/Strider 880.

Kershaw Leek, what started the quality knives for me and what led me to the forum

Black on black PM2 and it snowballed from there. I bought and sold many but still have that first PM2.

The tops desert fox, my first knife from a lesser known (to beginners) company. I looked for reviews, which lead to me bladeforums despite there being very few reviews regarding that specific knife. I actually didn't join until a couple months later, mainly because I had seen many other knife forums and thought that they all were kinda cheesy. Then I joined and realized that BF is the best of the knife forums:D

I think it was a 1999 Emerson CQC-7

Kershaw Scallion and Blur. I had bought those two before I found BF. I mainly came here because of the old Kershaw sub-forum, since that was the brand I was interested in at the time. My interests shifted more into the traditional slipjoints after that, so I've mainly hung out in the Traditional sub-forum since then.

I was at a mall 10+ years ago when I guy working a Kiosk approached me with a Kershaw Chive. As soon as I saw it I got my money out. While this is not the knife that got me in to knives, it was the one that got me back in to them in a bigger way. Funny how back then I thought the Chive was almost too big to carry around and now it is not uncommon for me to carry an XM-24.

I had a piece of crap Frost folder that had more or less completely fallen apart, and rather than just replace it with something that looked cool or whatever I decided to do a little research. I picked up a byrd Meadowlark, a Leek, a couple Sanrenmus and got an Alox Cadet to replace my beaten up scale-less Spartan.

Figured I'd be set for a while. Nope....

For me it was the Mini grip 556. I researched and researched for days looking for a replacement for my Buck Rush. Most of my time was spent reading various threads here on BF. I quickly realized I was hooked.

Mine was a SOG Seal Pup Sheath. I joined to asking for dimensions of the sheath. Still have the knife and sheath, though I now have a PE Pup elite that rides in it. I EDC this setup a couple times a week still. The original knife is in one of the go bags.

Maybe my first ZT 0550. It was right about the time I started getting into Benchmades and ZTs, and whenever I would search for reviews/opinions, the most useful info always came from BF. I think my Native 5 was the first I bought after joining.

For me, it wasn't a certain knife, it was researching 154CM steel that introduced me to this forum many years ago. I didn't join until last year though.

I've been collecting for at least 15 years and have been into high-end knives for about 8-10 years. I was a Bali-Flipper before I was big into the whole EDC thing.

Had a few Benchmades and still have my 51...havent flipped it in a while though. I think I might pull that bad boy out tonight and give it a twirl:)

Was trying to decide between a Gerber Progidy and SOG seal pup. I was reading as many reviews as I could find, and actually ended up reading in the comments about a "BK2".

Looked around for reviews, and found all of the stuff on here, and eventually bought one.

Shortly after it arrived I joined because I had a question about if I should contact Kabar support (sheath came with a broken snap), or something like that.

Still have it, don't use it much though. I've learned over time I don't need 1/4in of steel in a 5.25in blade :p.

A good variety of blades and reasons people found their way to bladeforums, very cool. I love this place, thanks spark!

Spyderco caly 3 zdp-189 was the gateway knife. After I bought that one I started researching my next knife. Found bf and it's been downhill from there. Haha
