Knife that got you started/led you to bladeforums

Thanks and wow what a well used knife. I hope you find another blade to last you equally as long.

As you wish...

One of the first knives I posted on BFC, CRKTs first knife. Most knife folks don't even know this was their first. Before the KISS collaboration or the Hammond models there was the Mac Commander and later came the Mini Commander.

Well BF did not exist when I got into knives. But the BM AFCK is what got me into knives. I got onto Rec knives and the old Knife Forums. Then when the forum split into KF and BF, I joined BF a month or two after it began.

Thanks, the search continues.
In the meantime, I've learned a lot here, tried lots of knives, have a pretty good idea how present day classes of blade steels react, what length and style of blade, shape and length of handle, lock, etc I need.
What I've come to realize is, that knife is in a class by itself.

I had a chinese made Benchmade (red class I think?) and was looking for info on it bc I assumed all Benchmades were American made. Rude awakening, and down the rabbit hole I went.

It was one of the cheap Chinese copies that brought me here...don't remember which one exactly.

I was tired of the bad, unreliable and 3 day-lasting knives I had gotten all my life and decided this could be a great place to learn and find better options.

Never imagined the things I'd learn! And not only talking knives here.

You got even MORE history, I'm truly jealous. You're a lucky guy for sure. That knife is a collector's piece for sure put that puppy in a safe to appreciate.

Black on black PM

That's a cool knife !
Next comment I'm going to make don't get me wrong I'm not being sarcastic. I really do like your knife a lot.

It reminds me of my old around town commuter bike I retired a few years ago. I bought it at an asstate sale for $15. It was candy red with chrome decals. I scraped off the decals, did some brazing on it to customize the heck out of it, put on some high end but old components, also fenders and luggage rack.
Then
for city camo I fogged the entire bike with stove pipe black paint. Flat and stooty looking. I never washed it just lubed it and took good care of it.
I called it The Black Pig. When an acquaintance would get near it or reach out to touch it I would say "careful; he'll slime yah".
Ha, ha, ha,
I loved that bike.
Used to sit out all night right down town and never got messed with once in thirty years.
Frame broke. He still sits in the shop and dreams of all our adventures.

Do you mean this one...?

And yeah, glad I found it. Would have never tried a Spydie, and never handled/used a Salt, if it weren't because of you guys. Thanks BF!

^yep that's the salt I always see.

I decided i needed a new hobby that was affordable and I wanted a folder for edc, so I found my way here. First purchase was a Rat1

One of the things I learned on BF was how popular the swiss army knives are. As mentioned earlier, I believe a SOG knife was the first knife I purchased after joining BF.

I saw an article in Field & Stream magazine on gun forums around the time I joined here. It is also about the time I got a DSL connection at home. That helped a lot as dial up was often an exercise in futility with pictures and so forth. I joined a few gun forums; most have fallen by the way side in terms of my interest. Internet forums..... hmmm.... checked into knives next. Then when I wanted a kayak, I did the same thing with them as I truly didn't know much about them at that time. Probably have enjoyed BF the most which is why I am a paying member.

Bought this "U.S Marines Tactical Tanto Assisted-Open Knife" at a Big5Sporting Goods about a year ago. I thought it was all the rage and that this price would get me quality :D

The spring-assisted open mechanism became slower over time and now it barely manages to push the blade out. As you can see the pivot screw wasn't up for servicing for long and needs replacement. The deep carry pocket clip is good enough. Apparently it has 440 stainless steel but I have never sharpened it so far.

I am complete noob when it comes to knives and I hope to learn a lot here!

I started buying knives before the internet was even thought of. The closest thing to a cell phone was on star trek. Anyways, I found this forum a couple years ago while researching an RC6.
