Knife that stopped you from carrying and buying other knives

Pretty happy with my small inkosi so far but that bit about not buying others is sacrilege and has no place in the knife world.
The greatest trick the devil played on man is to convince him that one knife is enough.

Do you have a knife that you just keep carrying ever since you got it, while you're neglecting other knives you have?

To me, that's spear point Recon 1.

Only other knife I got after I got Recon1 is K390 Delica. And I really wanted to carry Delica. So I carried it few days and it is good, but... it's not Recon1.

Why? It just gets the job done. It has great ergos, it's beefy and tough, steel is good and it's reliable. No worries about toughness, corrosion or lock sthrenght.

The biggest reason for me to get Delica was to have a smaller knife option for more formal occassions, but I might just carry my Recon1 there too. All other folders I had got either sold or gifted away. And Recon1 always finds a way in my pocket somehow.
Two years and a couple thousand dollars lighter, I am still searching for "the one".

When I got the OG CPK Field Knife, I sold quite a few I had in this size range and stopped searching.

You see! These Carothers knives have me Jonesin for one. I need another like I need a hole in my head and I just hate playing games to be able to give several hundred of my dollars to someone. Having said that, they do look great

I have for the most part in the sheath knife arena, that space has been occupied by the Sumo Jitsu made by David Mary David Mary . I have the original one off that it was based on as well. After a tweak of the handle dimensions, and a way heavier blade stock (the original is 3/32s 15n20 I think, this particular example is 1/4in 8670) we ended with a sharpened pry bar that still cuts pretty well. Which is exactly what I was looking for, something that can be beat on/abused and still come up grinning.IMG_20230522_094238301_HDR.jpg

The folding knife situation is a bit more dynamic, but overall the small sebenza has been my primary work knife. Paired with a small slip joint featuring a straight edge for the occasional bark tracing if a cut tears into the branch collar on trims.

I've also settled on the swisschamp in the multi tool arena.

I missed and just saw the “ buying “ part of this…ignore the buying part and my answer holds

You could look at it this way. I couldn't justify keeping my RMD, Spyderco Southfork, and several others after getting the FK. Sold them off. I actually saved money! They do multiply though....

You got it.
I totally get the downsizing and after all, if you are not really a collector, wouldn’t the epitome of the search be to find something that fills all your needs? I’m sure that “one” won’t do it but as I have stated before, one in a few different size categories to cover intended uses (real and not fantasy) would be nice and get rid of the clutter. I’m headed in that direction but I just felt many here shudder at the very mention of that idea

I can’t imagine myself ever being satisfied. Let’s call it what it is, an addiction. However, I have a Native 5 in Cruwear and smooth G10 that just keeps finding itself into my pocket. It’s good quality and relatively inexpensive, so I don’t mind using it hard.
