Knife that stopped you from carrying and buying other knives

Yes there is a knife that I always go back to and I am fortunate to have a lot of very nice EDC style blades

for me and my almost 50 years of carrying blades ………. I really did get my first knife around 6 :) I have covered the spectrum of different style carry knives.

From slip joints as a kid to large fixed blades at points in my life. What my edc has evolved to is small fixed blades in that 3 to 3.5 inch length worn horizontally crossdraw so you can imagine I have acquired a few in that size and carry style

I even have a few variations of it from the same maker but this particular one while only aesthetic is in it’s function and performance

it’s a wharncliffe design with a fairly acute tip designed to facilitate a Saber/Filipino grip or ice pick grip

its like a big X-Acto/Utility knife that is for me the perfect edc. It has the dexterity to dig out a splinter and the strength to cut heavy zip ties etc

it is forged from cable steel and sharpens quickly and has a very toothy edge. Heat treat is correct the edge does not chip or wrinkle. This knife was designed to be an aggressive cutter and it is.

It has a tapered tang with carbon fiber sculpted scales finished off with resin soaked carbon jute with a copper pin

I try and switch out and the most I get is about a month and I find myself going back. She ain’t pretty but she’s perfect

David Mirabile is the maker

It’s one or a couple of these four +90% of the time for me. My mini-bug out gets a little time during the summer when I dress lightly. They haven’t stopped my from buying but, at this point, I pretty much buy knives that appeal to me from a collection standpoint or are made/designed by makers I like. I’ve got carry knives covered for the time being.

You could look at it this way. I couldn't justify keeping my RMD, Spyderco Southfork, and several others after getting the FK. Sold them off. I actually saved money! They do multiply though....

My potato knife! 😠

My Pena Mula has been my carry for many years now, but has not stopped the urge to buy. I buy, then sell since they are just sitting, then buy some more.
There are certain brands, I find hard to pass up, even if I don't really need them.
But it is unlikely I will replace the Mula as my edc, unless it gets lost, broken or worn out.

Putting a lanyard on my Ronin made it so I do not feel like I have to pocket a Yoj of any size anymore so I can now carry a knife like a serrated Police 4 K390 or Spydie Advocate, or a Native Chief. Then I carry a Leatherman P4 in my watch pocket and the 2-5 layer SAK in my left lower pocket.

That neck Ronin freed up lots of pocket space. Minimal to no concern over SD when it comes to rest of knives.

Mine is pretty pedestrian, but my Kershaw 3460 "Westin" sees more pocket time than any of my other knives. It carries so well, feels great in my hand, has a great blade shape (for me) and just checks all the boxes. I've tried carrying other knives, but this one always seems to end up back in my pocket.

My benchmade crooked river in M4 plus my pm2 in z-wear (same as cruwear) and 15V are the only pocket knifes in keeping. I rotate through them based on sharpness. Gives me time to sharpen when I want to and allows me to still have a perfect edge in my pocket.

Honestly, the only reason I keep pocket knives is so I can carry one in areas that I can't carry my CPKs. I have zero interest in any other fixed blades now. Before owning a CPK, I didn't want to edc a fixed blade at all. Right now, I'm a big fan of my DEK1 in magnacut.

Since I got my Large Sebenza 31, I feel no need to buy other folders, it does exactly what I need a folding knife to do and my only regret is maybe not getting a small 31 in Magnacut instead of my Large 31 in S45VN, but there isn’t enough regret to buy another Sebenza or sell my current one which I’m pretty sentimental of.

Fixed blade wise, there are still a few on my wish list but the blue ridge Hunter I was gifted months ago is so close to being the perfect knife for me that I haven’t had the urge to get anything new since then.

Lately for me about 55% Shootout 35% pm2 CruWear, 10% occasionally the freek m4, manix 2, Caribbean, ad20.5 3v, Infidel, k390 stretch, bugout, ultratech ECT.. For most time in my pocket all depends on how slim of a profile, ergo's, weight, slice ability. Reasons why the pm2 makes the cut more than the manix even tho I love it. As for the shootout lightweight, slim height wise like the pm2. However as for a single knife to completely kick all others out and to stop buying? Noooo, I don't think so!! We all like a little verity from time to time.

My primary interest is fixed blades. And I can't say that anything will cause me to stop buying other knives, but I've sold off quite a few knives from other makers since acquiring some Carothers blades, and generally these days, if I'm putting money toward a new knife, it's going to be a CPK, because I know what I'm getting, and that it will be excellent.

I carried the Buck Mayo TNT for a decade until I lost it, then I started building a collection. Most recently carried the Spyderco PITS for a full year and before that the Native CF S90V for three months straight. The small Sebenza 21 is supposed to be my current carry for when I wear pants, except I never do and always have the Spyderco Dragonfly SE Salt clipped to my swimwear. 😄
But if I could have only one knife it would be a fixed blade, something like the Gunny Hunter 3V.

I still buy shiny things that tempt me, but as far as carry I'm down to a few that get the majority of my attention on normal days.

I tend to carry a small Sebenza 21 Insingo by default. If I'm going to the office (maybe twice a month now), I'll swap it for a Mnandi. If I'm going to a data center or somewhere else that's more physical-work oriented, the large Sebenza goes with me.

For almost everything else, there's my CPK DEK1. And a CPK SDFK for jobs between "almost" and power tools.

So I guess that's five. Hadn't really given this a whole lot of thought, but that's about where I am. A whole lot of knives could go away, but for inertia, laziness and probably misplaced affection for lumps of metal.

I found my perfect knife in 1976, bought it in 1984. Buck 110. Perfect for all my needs. I probably went 10 years never touching another knife.

But when I had extra funds, I started collecting. I try some of them out. Some get pocket time, some are historical. I collect what I like, but really mostly still carry a 110.
