Knife to carry in Bear country

Back to the original question, Could you carry pepper spray instead of bear spray? Or is that out to?

I like my fallkniven A1 for camp tasks, I am not sure how well it would work for sticking bears though.

We have alot of bears here, but mostly little black bears.

Something pointy and stabby comes to mind, maybe a dirac delta, SOG Pentagon fixed dagger, Heretic Neph, etc.

A spear would be better, maybe the one Lynn threw on the water buffalo? Lol

Edit: here

This is an entertainingly misinformed statement: the sort of ignorant diaper sauce typical of the kind of guy who thinks his gun makes his penis look bigger. Your entire life must be a dark comedy of obtuse, hubristic self-fumbling.
Replace gun with pepper spray.

This thread is asking about carrying a knife to protect you from bears, because their government will not allow pepper spray.

So their government is not allowing a non lethal form of protection, and someone wants to resorts lethal weapon, that will probably not work as well the non lethal.

I've enjoyed my time in Canada, more so with the western Canadians, then the european canadians. A term I picked up from a guy from Manitoba. You know who he is talking about.

But I also look down on them for not having backbone.

Back to topic, I guess the biggest and heaviest knife you can tolerate carrying. Which is also the parameters when choosing a gun to carry.

I wonder about an axe. I just got a estwing camp axe around 26". Though maybe deep penetration would be better than a hard whack. Axe is longer. But you'll probably not get a second strike no matter the weapon you choose. Though not like you are going to kill the bear, in time. You are hoping to change his mind.

I carry 44 special with buffalo bore. I have insurance on my home, which costs me more money, and every year But I have decided that a 1 in XXXXXXXX chance my loved ones are hurt is not acceptable. Everyone has different risk tolerance.

i probably worry more about the wolves when running my dogs. But a big bear won't always tree. I do not either hunt bears with my dogs.

Any knife you can fashion a flaming torch with, because most animals will avoid fire. Better make it in advance and have a lighter in your hand too. At least then if it all goes south the bear can cook you instead of eating you raw.
Like I said courtesy counts!

the black bears were protected. I was told to bring a good dowel rod to discourage a bear if one tried to get into my tree stand. Never did see one and I hunted there for only one season.
A DOWEL ROD, EH? ONE SEASON HUNT LIKE THAT IS ENUF.

Ha-ha. Gotta remember that one.

No, the OP actually made it clear somewhere later in this thread that bear spray is in fact legal, he just excluded it to focus responses on knives. Not anticipating the confused discussion this precipitated, LOL.

This thread has degenerated.
MOD- please close this thread.

Some folks may be disillusioned to discover the topics of discussion in internet forums may not be the most serious in nature. I, however, am enjoying this thread because the original post could have been perceived different ways and as a result, the responses have been entertaining.
Examples are; Is this a serious question? Are you joking? Are you proposing a what if scenario? You mean you can't have a gun or bear spray??? If any clarity was given on this, please forgive me, as it's been a couple days since reading through some of the pages.

I would love to hear what knife you are now leaning towards after all the feedback.😀

You need a good right hook straight out of the gate……

You should carry the biggest and heaviest knife you can find. That way it will be easier for me to outrun you. What you and the bear do then is moot from my point of view.
