Knife you have lost.

About five years ago I bought a Bark River Gunny with olive wood scales and sandvik stainless steel.

The wood came raw and unfinished and I hated the thumb ramp/fire steel striker, but otherwise it was a beautiful knife.

I finished the wood with, of all things, super glue, which came out OK but made the wood look like plastic.

In either case, I never really used or reached for it.

Finally, about a month ago, I had a friend grind off the ramp and then I sanded off the glue and just started oiling the handle. Suddenly I really loved the knife.

A week ago my brother, an aspiring knife guy, asked if I'd ever want to trade him anything for a knife. I knew that he liked the gunny so, rather than do a trade, I just gifted him the knife, telling him that I wanted him to have it because I knew he would give it a good home.

That very evening while he was biking home from a BBQ it slipped out of his messenger bag.

He called me the next day and felt terrible, and I can't blame him because, like me, he's really careful about things like that and I feel like it could have happened to anyone.

Still though...ah! It was a first production run knife too! What a bummer!

My brother just texted me. Turns out that after he lost this knife he put up a craigslist ad about it.

Evidently a couple found it and could tell it was special to someone, but didn't know what to do so they held onto it for over a month. Then their son was visiting the other day and suggested that they check Craigslist. Long story short, this knife is back in my brother's hand as intended

Awesome ending!

I've posted before, but the 2 that hurt the most are ones that were set down, and not there when I went back. Obviously stolen. Oh, well. First was a Spyderco Kopa Gold-lip pearl, that I know fell out of my pocket at a conference. 2 was a CRK Mnandi in Ironwood, that I accidentally left at a hotel. Ouch, both times!

One that I lost, and was sure I'd never see again was a William Henry B10 Gentac in Ironwood. Thought I lost it out of my slacks at a restaurant, and gave up looking after a few phone calls. A couple months later, I found it had slipped out in my mini-van. That one rides in a sheath now. Clip was not designed for thin material.

lost my buck vangard in s30v when I moved from one place to another (I think). I can't seem to find it in any of my stuff, and the last time I saw it was at the previous place. that was one of my top 3 favorite Buck knives, made me sick when I realized I lost it lol. that thing was actually pretty impressive believe it or not! maybe the knife fairy will bless me and it will show up in the pile of sh*t in the back of my truck one day. ha! I sure do miss that thing.

I had a Swiss champ that grew legs and walked right out of my Jeep. Turns out my neighbor identified the culprit for me, but before I could dispense some justice the little bugger OD'd on fentanyl lollipops. Never saw either again.

I lost "someone stole" my buck fixed blade i had in my tackle box about 8 years ago. Still dont know which model it was but i think it was either the 102 or 105.

Took my dog out for walk last winter with my Kershaw 1550ST Blackout clipped in my front pocket. I had my shirt untucked and the hem of the shirt must have caught the clip and it pulled out of my pocket. I didn't realize it until later that night when I was emptying my pockets and got that "on sh!t" feeling in my stomach. Woke up to about a foot of snow so I went out to clear my driveway with the snowblower and unfortunately "found" my knife after it went through the auger and out the chute of the snowblower. It was a good size knife that I did not carry all the time but there were times when that was the knife to carry. I remember buying it shortly after the 9/11 attacks so I had it for quite a while and took good care of it. Just bought a DPx HEAT to replace the Kershaw and to EDC in place of my BM mini griptillian.

The first pocketknife I ever got was a Wenger Handyman my parents gave me when I was 8. It was relegated to a dresser drawer after years of daily pocket carry, the scales having long since cracked and come off, and through several moves and reorganizations was eventually lost altogether. I've never been a nostalgic sort of guy, but occasionally I regret not having kept track of it.

In 2002 I lost a weeks-old Juice CS4 to an amnesty box at a MEPS center. This was just months after 9/11, so the idea of pocketknives being incompatible with metal detectors still hadn't completely taken hold in my brain, had I even been anticipating a checkpoint to begin with. Since I was being marched through the line at 0400 with 50 other groggy enlistees, I didn't really have any choice.

I've somehow lost two Skeletool CXes, one to an ex-girlfriend and one I can't account for at all. I still haven't bought a third (technically fourth, since Leatherman replaced one), despite it being the knife/tool I'd choose if I could only EDC one thing for the rest of my life.

It's not as if I can account for every single knife I've owned these past ±25 years, but those are the ones that stick out.

Sitting in class at Purdue almost 20 years ago I lost my benchmade 350. I was running late for class, rushed in and sat down and think it slipped out of my pocket while I was getting situated for class. I didn't realize it was gone until I got back to my apartment. Wasn't sure if I'd get into trouble or not for having a knife in class so didn't make a big deal looking for it. Replaced it with an identical model, but still miss the original as it was my first benchmade.

Lost my Benchmade Griptillian two winters ago in December. Lost in a pile of snow in front of my mother's house. Come March when the snow melted, sure enough there she was sitting there on the ground waiting for me. My father found her laying there in the grass and called me up to let me know he had dried her off and was holding her till he saw me next.

That little BM is in my pocket as we speak, no worse for the wear.

I HAD a friend steal 2 folders from me a long time ago.
One I don't remember the name to, the other was a crkt something, back then it was the business haha.
This was about 15 years ago.

Don't make friends with meth users (he didn't look or act like one when we were friends).

I'll second that, I had a guy, a pill head, steal eight knives from me, some nice ones too.

Other than that...I sometimes think about all the knives I had when I was younger that I have no idea whatever happened to. I suspect my little brother swiped some of them. Others I probably just spaced somewhere. The weirdest disappearance was about 10 years ago, we were swimming at my family's property and I had my SAK sitting with my clothes on a table, when one of the girls decided to go in, she figured she'd be helpful and carry my stuff up. Somewhere along the 50 yards from the dock to the house my knife vanished. I looked everywhere. I still go out poking around looking for that knife sometimes.

I have lost two SAKs so far (one lost and one stolen) and have misplaced more than that. Knives keep turning up in my "stuff" but those two saks are really gone. Gone and replaced. A few misplaced ones truly bug me.

"Lost" and Opinel No.6 that I had for several years. Had resharpened and oiled it and left it on the kitchen counter. Housemate at the time reckoned he had nothing to do with the disappearance but I think otherwise...

"Lost" a Leatherman Juice when I forgot I had in on my carry-on at the Airport but didn't have time to check it in. One of my most painful moments dropping it into the bin before the security gate...

I lost what was, for years, my favorite knife - (my) Microtech Lightfoot LCC. I was confident it would be found; but, after a few years, that confidence faded. I began to look for a replacement, but could never quite bring myself to make the purchase.
Today, cleaning up in the basement (got some water with a recent storm), my girlfriend found it while going through a box that had gotten wet. There were a couple of knives there; but everything stopped when I saw that one. I brought it upstairs, disassembled it, then soaked the liners, blade, and washers in penetrating oil. The rust on the blade, for the most part, cleaned up fairly easily after the soak. I had to sand one liner, and the washers; but it could have been sooo much worse.
It isn't perfect; but it's a 15 yr old used knife. Something tells me that some of my newer purchases just went into retirement.

Still some work to be done, as seen here

I bought this knife, new, 15 yrs ago - it's good to have it back

I lost a Gerber drop point folding sportsman many years ago. About four years later I was just playing with the dog on the lawn and felt something under my hand it was the Gerber!!! The wood scales were gone but the rest of the knife was ok. Still have it, close to 30 years ago.

I've lost 2 Spydies in my house. Both at the same time, both in their boxes, in a bigger box. A Manix lw s110v and a Caly 3 se.

I'd only had the Manix 2 for 2or 3 weeks when it when 'missing'. I've thought of buying the same knife on BF but why.

I've looked everywhere I can think of. Spent a few hours looking. Drives me nuts sometimes. I Know they're here but Where!:grumpy:
