I'll start this by saying there are justifiable knife purchases and unjustifiable knife purchases. In this thread I'm referring to the unjustified ones. Every once in a while I will get a few knives in my head and can't for the life of me shake them. I know that I do not need them, and I know that they probabely won't be that "end all" knife. So I suffer through these mind games for as long as I can handle until I finaly just give in and order them. More often then not these aren't the most fiscally responsible decisions. I'm not saying that I starve myself of basic necessities or anything, but there are definitely better ways I could spend(or dare I say save) my money.
So, a recent thread got me thinking. What if there was a place where I could just dump out all my selfish guilty desires?(knife related of course ;) ) Well now there is. This is not meant to be a feed back thread. This is just somewhere to get out all those silly frivolous wants, because sometimes once you say it out loud it no longer sounds so nesciscary.

Lately I have been fixated on a bm 710 and emersons. For some reason I just want a new 4" blade. Now I've had a few and know darn well that I will rarely carry a knife of that size because of all the room it takes up in the pocket, but something keeps telling me "these knives will be different". Now I fully intend on picking up a 710 at some point, but I do not need it NOW! As for the emersons, well I just really want a waved knife. That sounds reasonable and all, but after buying multiple knives with quick opening methods I've come to realise that a smooth thumbstud is the one I will always come back to.

What's all this. Come on. This forum is to encourage or insatiable need and addiction for knives, none of this knifeaholics anonymous talk now. Embrace the addiction.

But yes, I know what you mean, I've been drooling over and dreaming about some of the new toys Tuffknives has been building, and yes, I can't shake it.

Just give in to the urge in a more responsible way. 710s are not that expensive, especially light users, and you should be able to get most, if not all of your money back when (or if) you resell, as long as you buy right. You should be able to do the same with the Emerson, or a ZT 0620, or even one of the new budget Kershaw/Emerson collaboration models.

OK, yes, I am a knifeaholic as well... But it makes me happy!

And yes, I did pick up a user 710, which I have only carried a few times, but wouldn't part with unless things got fairly tough finance-wise.

I haven't tried the wave yet, but the 0620CF is certainly a near future purchase!

I feel your "pain". Got a ZT350 in Oct. 2 Benchmades last week and a LionSteel today. Must be my mid life crisis....don't drink and don't womanize......knives are the ticket!!!!!

Balisongs! I can't stop buying them!

I have 5 on the way. 3 are knives I already have! They are just getting so rare, and the discontinued ones are worth so much I feel like I need one to flip, and one to keep mint.
(yes I'm making excuses) :p

Face it, we're ALL a little "off to see the Wizard..." about this stuff.

Except me.

It's a better hobby than consumables (gambling, fine dining, expensive drinks) and niche interests where the items being collected have no practical use than their collector/monetary value (antique toys, model trains, coins).

In addition, generally you get the quality you pay for in knives whereas sometimes with other 'collectibles' the price is purely about the rarity of a particular object.

To put things in perspective I would rather spend $2000 on a custom knife than:

An old penny that is one of 10 that were stamped incorrectly from the Mint.
Some rare children's toys that are still mint in box.
A bottle of old champagne that will be gone in a night.
A night of gambling in Vegas.
A meal at a five star restaurant that will be forgotten next week.

I overspend on some things and underspend on others. If I were to sell everything I would break even, but I would still have the joy of handling and carrying the knives I owned.

All this makes the knife obsession worthwhile to me.

I bet Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob Smith both carried a pocketknife of some sort.

At least when you spend money on a knife, you have the knife forever as opposed to a night of gambling that is forgotten within a week.

My knife has saved my life. Gambling problems and coke habits do the exact opposite.

A work mate often feeds money into the pokie machines at the pub for an hour before starting nightshift. Occasionally he boasts of a 'win'. Fine, if that's his thing.

But he is derisive when I "spend so much on just a pocket knife" instead of "just sharpening an old hacksaw blade, it'll do the same thing", not to mention "why on earth have a couple of dozen knives when I only need 1?"

Nah, I ain't the one with a problem. I'm good, even though like you I can't stop wanting a 710...

Well, I've found nothing but enabler's on here!! Kinda like goin to the bar if your trying to quit drinkin. I actually laughed when I read your post because I suffer with the same mental impairment when it comes to my knife hobby, habit, addiction whatever you wanta call it. Seem's there's no cure except job loss that will slow this freight train down.

My next DDR custom...

I thought about getting an alox sak with my "birthday" on it, 10-7-13, for my 2 year, but I just never persued it. I still might do it, since no matter what knife is in my front pocket I always carry a sak in my back.
Oh well, i guess I just traded one addiction for another. Like its been said, the chances of this one leading to "hospitals, institutions, or death" aren't very likely. It's just everyonce in a while I get in this mode where I feel like I must have mult models, and in turn makes my current knives seem boring and outdated. Which couldn't be farther from the truth.

I hope this addiction doesn't count towards my sobriety date. Still young, 12-13-14, no drinking or smoking tobacco.

Cuz even though it'll be squeaky tight I want to order a Spyderco Civilian on the 24th. :emot-yarr::emot-yarr::emot-yarr:
