Knifecenter.com and the SAK Tinkerer

I got one through them as well! I find myself needing a lot of the tools in the Super Tinker set anyway and it's way lighter (though less capable) than my LM Wave. I always thought a SAK would just be too bulky in pocket, but it sits pretty comfortably in my front pocket along with my keys and I still have room for my penlight as well. I've considered either adding a small lanyard or just attaching it to my keychain to make it easier to fish out of my pocket. The blade geometry is great for normal EDC use (cleaning under fingernails, opening packages, cutting loose strings on clothing) and with a few swipes on a strop every day it's gotten even sharper than it did from the factory. I've thought about ordering some Alox scales and doing the rivet work myself (mainly because my keys are doing a number on the plastic ones), but I like having the toothpick and tweezers. Maybe I'll have to fire up the mill and make some custom scales for it...

I always have several knives on me at a time, at least 2 usually. Some of the knives I have are in excess of $1000, but the knife that gets carried the most out of all of them is my Victorinox Alox Pioneer, special edition in copper without the bail attachment (the bail attachment tend to ruin the feel of the knife for me a little, so this one was perfect).

Every time I carry a knife, my Pioneer is in my back pocket next to my wallet with it, and since my main knife generally rotates and changes depending on the day, but the Pioneer always stays the exact same, it gets carried more than anything else I have right now. I don't use the blade on it that much, but the tools have saved me several times when I didn't have a tool bag on me on a small job, or when something might have been out of place on a display at work or something.

It's definitely my favorite SAK I've handled so far, and I ended up selling or giving away all of my others after I got this one because I just don't ever use them.

A good SAK is also one of the best all-around presents to both knife people and non-knife people. They're just too useful to not love.

SAK + Spydie has been my perfect EDC combo for the last 5 years. SAK for the tools and to work around the sheeple, Spydie-of-the-day for the clip, OHO, full grip and edge retention. I am deeply unhappy if I leave either of them at home.

Before that I used to carry only a SAK (Pioneer) for 15 years. It could do everything I needed to, except to stay sharp for a long time. And I lost a few by carrying loose in pocket. I have learnt from those mistakes...

When I have a watchpocket, I often slip my Alox Cadet in there. The flat screwdriver is used a lot. The nail file is also quite useful to me. Use the blade a little.
It's a great backup.
I have a Alox Pioneer, it's bigger, heavier than the Cadet, I don't carry it much.

No kidding!! That's a winner's collection right there.

Thank! It keeps growing....

OP, you're happy with your Tinker for now but then you'll get to looking at the Super Tinker and think "Hmmm a pair of scissors might be handy and it isn't much bigger than the Tinker." and then you see the Deluxe Tinker and think, "Well, those pliers might be cool to have and it isn't much bigger than the Super Tinker....."

I think half the fun is trying out different SAK models in search of the perfect model, for now I have settled on the Cybertool 34....

SAKs are some of the coolest man toys there are. I used ti have one when I was younger, great piece.

Now all they need to do is make one with M390 steel, Marbled carbon fiber handles, and a gold rivets, and I would buy that in a heartbeat! Totally reasonable, right
But will you settle for ZDP-189 and some handsome wooden scales?

These days my SAK is on my belt every day. It only replaces other things when I'm in a fear-dominated environment such as at college, though these days I find myself caring less and less about that sort of thing because life is short.

I like the blades a lot, but I actually primarily carry it for the other tools. When using a knife, I prefer a full-size handle and a locking blade, but for simple light cutting I love the way Victorinox does theirs. I can't count the times my SwissChamp has come in handy.

Anybody got a link to that funny youtube video of the guy testing the edge holding of the SAK? He keeps on cutting rope expecting it to dull, and it instead goes a very long way past what expected.

Did you install the clip yourself? Where can I find this?

If I could put clips on my SAK I'd be so very happy....I carry my Super Tinkerer loose in my back right and it gets to be tiresome throughout the day.

This one?

Yeah, that's the one!:thumb up:

Just love how he expects it to stop cutting, but it keeps on keeping on. On paper the SAK steel is second rate, but in the real world it works pretty darn good. Kind of like bumble bee's not supposed to be able to fly. :)

Little guy won't quit.

I was surprised by how sharp my SAK came. I don't remember shaving arm hair with mine ad a kid. Maybe that was because I didn't have any, who can say.

That's a big one for me too, the clip, and I have been pondering a way to affix one to the side of this little guy. Nothing yet, but I'll rig something up. I can't stand it loose in my back pocket.

Nite Ize makes a pocked clip that can affix to the side of the SAK. It has very strong peed and stick tape.
