Hay,

Super idea, am a newbie and I am going to need one of these, will it come with instructions ? I have needed one for a long time.

Hi.

I was wondering if any of you guys ever got one of these.
If so how does it work?
Would you buy it again?
In other words, how about a review.

Thanks, Greg

Nope. We're still waiting to try these out. JT's got a few pies in the oven, and his equipment in the shop has been spoken for other work projects.

Sorry guys, I will be shipping out the ones that are done this week. I am in the process of working with the boss about actualy having the shop do a batch run of these for me.

JT I can't speak for the rest of the folks but I would really like an update. I understand how things happen just let me know whats going on. Thanks.

JT, I,m stiil looking forward to purchasing that cool tool. How about letting me know what's up! Thanks

sorry guys i have been super busy and have not been on blade forums much at all. but the update is like such. for anyone wanting to or waiting for the next batch of these, I'm in discussion with the boss to just have the shop make them on the 9 axes mill all in one operation. so the i will keep you updated with any further developments. now to the people that are kindly waiting, I have 9 ready to go out, well i should say i had 9 :mad::mad::mad::mad:. I made a drastic mistake in making the batch of 10. when i made them i center drilled the end then drilled it and then taped it. but then i chamfered the threaded hole to allow positive thread start. so after heat treating and bead blasting i cleaned them up and went to put the screw in them and found that thy did not go in, can i say damn here on this forum . so any way i got out the taps and tried to re-tap. well i taped them all and now have 5 good ones and 4 broken taps in 4 parts. its not all lost as we have a EDM hole popper at work that can eat out the broken taps. but if you did not see my mistake above i will tell you what it is. i chamfered the tapped hole after i tapped it and then did not run the tap back down before heat treating. so it rolled over the first thread and re-cutting a 61HRC thread with a HSS tap is a Pain in the ass. Sorry for the long post but i just letting you know what i have been fighting. but these ones will be shipping out this week. thats hopping that i can get the hole popper man to do me a favor :D. but thy look good and man are thy hard. i will post some pictures later so you can see them.

Always consider the H limit of the tap on parts that will be hardend & tempered or plated. Hardened steel "grows" or, in the case of your tapped holes, tighten up. My guess is you used an H1 when you should have used an H4 or even H5. On taps under 1" each H limit increases the basic pitch diameter by .005.

Being an experienced machinist you should know better than to try and run a tap into steel @ 61 HRC, c'mon :D

the tread pitch is OK, it is that the first thread was rolled over just a bit from chamfering with a not super sharp tool. once i cleared it the screw went to the bottom of the hole just fine. I just forgot the step of always checking my threaded holes before heat treating as it can come back and bite you on the butt. ya i know hardened steel and and taps are a no-no together but some times there's no other way.

here is a shot of them just out of the heat treat foil and oven. there sitting on a huge aluminum plate so as to cool. thy look like little hot loaves of bread.

Thank you,

another update. well i went into the shop today and sitting on my bench was 4 edge scribes that had the broken taps removed. man i work with some really nice people. so i have 9 edge scribes at my house. just need to be set up and mailed out. I spent about an hr talking with another machinist At work today about how to make these faster and i think we came up with a great game plan. i will need to make a few more fixtures. but once that is done i should be able to bang these out. it seams like for now i am going to be making these in the shop after hrs as the shop is kinda packed with work and i would need to order a large batch. to all the people that have been emailing me wanting to get on another waiting list. i will be putting one together soon but i need to get the current order done first. after this order is done i most likely wont be doing a pay in advance as i hope to just have a bunch in stock that i can sent you.
