Hey there, I've been lurking on this site for awhile. Great information and a great knowledge base here. I'm interested in starting out making my own, and would like to know if anyone is aware of any classes or schools on knifemaking located in lower NYS/Hudson Valley area. I'd like to try to keep this local if possible. Thanks.

Greetings all,

I'm posting this for my pop, this looked like the most appropriate place to put this.

My dad is Jim Ferguson. Many of you have probably heard of him -- he's been featured in countless magazines and has been making knives for 20+ years. He's most known for his damascus steel. He's also one of the pioneers in using the hydraulic press in the blade making process.

For the past year we've been developing a comprehensive knife making DVD for beginning and intermediate makers -- filmed professionally.

In March 2007 we will be launching "HowToMakeAKnife.net". Here's what will be on the site:

+ High quality videos covering every aspect of knife making, available for direct download and viewing online.

+ Live video conferencing with Jim in his shop to answer your specific questions on knife making -- as well as traditional phone support.

+ Ebooks and other instructional materials that will assist you in learning the craft of knife making.

To be notified when the site is launched, and to see a short sample video, go to:

Also, please send us suggestions on topics you would like covered in upcoming videos. Email us at suggestions@twistednickel.com

Thanks for providing the space to post this!
