Okay, the wife ordered me a new blade for Christmas on 12/19/08. Never got the knife & never got a follow up email with shipping info...

I call today just before leaving for work; I am told, rather testily, that the order would ship today. ...No email confirmation today either though. And when I call them back at ~4pm CST, they are closed for the holiday...?

I'm seriously considering canceling the order. And ordering something from one of the other companies I have dealt with before. Kinda on the fence about it...

Suggestions?

A search of the Feedback Forum shows many positive, albeit older, responses. It's also worth noting that there is a member by the name of "Knife Outlet", but I don't know that they are related...

I had a couple of experiences with them over the past year or so.
One was great - shipped quickly & brand new in the box.
The other was not so great - ordered, didn't get an email or any contact, waited a few days - then I phoned.
They said the item wasn't in stock, wasn't expected to be in stock, and my credit card hadn't been charged. (And in fact it hadn't been charged.)
But I wish they'd contacted me & let me know instead of me having to contact them.

it's the owner, Fred (dunno his full name) haven't ordered from them in some time, but the past experiences were good

No follow up email so they lied when they claimed a shipping date of 12/30/08. They are closed through Monday. I just sent an email to cancel the order & will let y'all know if it is done in good faith. Thanks!!!

If they said they would ship on 12/30/08, how do you know that is not in the mail? It's only 1/2/09 and yesterday was a Holiday.

It is concieveable that the item was shipped 12/30 or 12/31 and they just didn't email confirmation. I that case the item is shipped & I will let it be. If it was never shipped out then not.

Sorry to hear of your news, James Green Dragon.

All of my experiences with KnifeOutlet have been good including the owner special-ordering a knife for me.

I was just thinking about this (it is a busy day) - no word from these folks at all thus far. ...I'm already on hold for something else at this moment & I do not have time to call right now...

I tried to deal with KO once. Without going into the sad details, lets just say I found better, more dependable, dealers to do business with.

That's the kind of vague innuendo that gives the internet a bad name. If you have any facts to tell, tell them. If you don't have any facts to tell ...

OK.....I'll remove the vagueness.

KO listed a new knife model on their website at a very good price. They took my order, but never shipped the knife. Months passed then the ad was then removed from their website.

I sent the following in an email to which Fred responded (in blue):

Is there any hope of the outstanding portion of this order being filled? I notice that you don't even list it for order on your website any longer.

I think the chances of their making it again are less than 50/50.

Other dealers do have it in stock and available for immediate delivery.

Impossible.

However you had the best price and I have dealt with your company before. I would be willing to wait a little longer if I can be assured of eventually receiving it - but, I do not want to keep waiting only to find out later they are no longer available.

Good luck.

Based on this, I cancelled my order and purchased from another dealer - no harm, no foul. But then a couple of weeks later KO had the knife listed on the website once more but at a higher price. This is the thing that really turned me off regarding KO. It seemed to me they didn't have them to sell at the original price, but had them for sale once they raised the price. Maybe the original was a typo, I don't know, but I could have understood If I was told it was a mistake and they couldn't honor the originally advertised price.

I don't know what KO situation really was, but I didn't need what seemed like a run-around or the implication that I wasn't truthful in my communication. That's why I deal elsewhere since then.

Now you have all the facts - at least from my point-of-view. Some might interpret the issue differently, but it made enough of a negative impression on me to change my buying preferences.

I have ordered from KO a few times four or five years ago, but the final time kind of soured me on doing business with them. I ordered a special edition Benchmade Activator model (D2 with Oak scales) and received a regular model in a specially marked box. Contacted Fred who said to send it back for an exchange and he would cover return shipping costs (sounded great, good attitude). So I sent it back, didn't hear anything for about a week. Finally contacted him and he said that all the special editions had sold out in the mean time and he no longer had one for an exchange. Eventually refunded my money to my CC, but never covered the return shipping costs.

Now I realize that Fred was not a fault for sending the wrong knife, since it was in a mismarked box, but you think he would have set one aside for me as soon as I contacted him about the problem, instead of waiting until I sent the package back. I had already paid for the special edition model so there was no reason not to hold one back instead of selling them all.

At any rate, I wrote off KO and the $8 bucks they owed me for return shipping and have been doing most of my business with New Graham ever since. Mike provides excellent service and always takes care of his customers.
