Happy Birthday, Daniel! What an exciting day, haha.

Steaks and beer sound godly. It's the simple things.

Good morning Xander!

One of the knives in my new batch is inspired by the design you sent me... way different but I hope I do it justice!

I always go to great effort with heat treat and literally spend weeks researching each steel... this 52100 is some impressive stuff I have to say. I can get it sharper than anything I know of including Hitachi White at 64RC.

Cool stuff! Which design, lol!?

Been spending my mornings the last week tryin to nurse my Betta Splendins back to health. Don't really know what's wrong, but he has been lethargic, just laying at the bottom of his tank. He normally swims around vigorously, charging the front of the tank everytime I approach. Which is why I named him Charger. I've been testing his water quality, temperature, diet, Ph, etc. He seems to be hungry, which is good, no digestive issues, and no signs of bacterial infection either. Just playing the waiting game. I really do enjoy keeping these fish, just so beautiful!

Here is a pic of Charger before he fully matured

Hmmm, bettas are rough... and most keep them in tiny tanks so water quality is almost always an issue.. what kind of food? How much? I kept fish for maybe 12yrs... several tanks... largest was the 110 gallon.. had a 75gal, 110gal, and 15 breeder tank.. super fun, but with kids, no thanks :D Maybe soon.. I've designing a built in wall book case to support the possibility of a 75 gallon to sit in it..

time to make the donuts... grey out... might try to photo some knives and get some sold.. preparing for large purchase O_o

Make today a good day, like Ice-cube ya' know.

He's in a filtered and heated 2.5 gallon tank, that's the smallest I will go for long term keeping, 1G for transport and quarantine. He's on a mix of freeze dried blood worms (presoaked to prevent bloat), Hikari bio-gold betta pellets (his main diet) and frozen brine shrimp (once a week or so). Filter is run ~4 or 5 hours a week to prevent exhaustion, I don't adjust Ph in tank, its too small for that. I do age water and treat for ammonia and chlorine/chloramines when adding or 50% changes. I also use aquarium salt as a immune booster and to inhibit algae growth a bit. Water temp is 78*-80*F constant.

I started him on Myracin Two today, hopefully that regimine will help. No clamped fins, no fin rot (rare in bettas anyways, same with ich), no septicemia visable, no signs of dropsy, no pop-eye, just lethargic and sitting on the bottom.

I kept fish for about 10-12 years seriously, but I never went over 10G tanks. Instead I started to specialize in fish from th same region of a river, all Characiformes and the occasional cleaner fish thrown in. I gotta say that Paracheirodon axelrodi was my favorite to watch in schools of 8-10. Just lovely little fish!

Starting a new employee at work today, she seems bright and able to follow direction, hope it goes well. It helps that she is a first year Vet Tech student.

Hmmm, kind of surprised you don't run some aeration 24/7 in that small a tank.. though I suppose you change water ever week or more... food.. seems like a lot for a betta... keep it simple works best for many fish.

And 78-80? I don't know, seems a bit high.. but again, I never kept bettas and not sure of their temp requirements. I kept mostly Lake Tanganyika cichlids. Shellies too, small guys.. Very cool behavior. Water temp. like 75 max..

GL with the fishies! It's lunch time here... yay!

Xander I hope Charger feels better soon! I don't have a clue other than the temp sounds high but I have never had any Bettas.

We had a cool tank for years but now have a vicious Gourami and Catfish that eat anything we get!

Betta are still water fish and hvae labyrinth organs, so aeration isn't required, but humidity is. He is fed only 5-6 days a week, the once live food is for vitality, and a mix. The pellets are the vast majority though. Temp wise, bettas are good all the way to 85* and can survive short stints up to 90*F, they are shallow water tropicals, living in mostly rice paddies. If temp drops below 65*F for more than just a few hours it can be fatal for them.

Water changes are more like twice a month, due to the high temp, evaporation is high so I'm mostly adding water. I don't keep gravel because it is a pain to clean in that small of a tank.

They are a bit different than most other fresh water fish, it was a learning curve for sure. I think my next one is going to be an Apache blood line Half Moon - Crown Tail, but its gonna be a big purchase as they range from $40 to $100 depending on coloration.

Only time will tell how he's going to recover! My last male was pretty sickly, had to treat him about every 8 months or so, but he lasted 5 years! Never did figure out what was causing his ailments, even the breeder I got him from couldn't figure it out.
