Hey guys!

Lots to say... just in from a long day of... brewing! I was in the shop until late yesterday and took the day off. Pics soon! I need my camera back...

Beer - some sort of strong ale I suppose, it has been a while since I knew my beer recipes. I just finished it up, all grain brewing is a serious day... takes about 8 hours to make a batch.

Grain Bill

10# Barley... ground mysellf by hand! Rahr brand, 2 row I think
1# Victory Malt - for a bready flavor
1# 90* for a dark carmelized flavor

tons of hops! cleaning out the freezer
Simcoe, Chinook, Sorachi Ace, Amarillo.. 6 oz total and added evenly throughout the boil 60 minute IPA style..

US 05 Yeast for a clean beer

1# Corn Sugar for more alcohol and a cleaner beer... will be 8%+ or so

It was my first ever "all grain" 5 gallon batch! I have brewed tons of homebrew but never from grinding the barley on up... I usually used malt extract. This is exciting!

Big week in the shop too... 9 knives are very close! :D

BigCountry smoke sent and good to see you!

Nice boats...

Gooeytek that is crazy fast, wow! Anything under 14 seconds is blazing. I really can't imagine!

Grinding Dust - take to dump, put out with trash (if legal, etc) as they are capable of handling it.... if you are ambitious save and take to your local scrap metal buyer, they usually accept anything over 80% steel by weight, my buddy scrapped a whole school bus including tires, engine hoses, etc. Direct recycling! :D You'll get maybe 5 cents a pound but it is cool to recycle. I wouldn't toss it in my yard personally...

Oohh man, that sounds like its gonna be killer brew! I still wanna try homebrewing sometime, but I need another hobby like a hole in the head....

Go get some R&R, we'll be here when you get back!

Evening fellas!

Kevin, it will be interesting to see how the Ferrania does, but sadly it uses an obsolete film size. I can still find some, but it will be old stuff that people (hopefully) had stashed in their freezer. Maybe I'll modify it to take a different size to film, that would be pretty cool! Its a small camera which is nice for carrying in my bg.

Daniel, DFK ale! Sounds killer to me . Will it come in Ti bottles?
Xander, will that box camera be a good candidate for a wet plate conversion, like the dude with the camera truck did to a Holga? It would give you super cool old timey looking photos.

It might, but with a film carriage that slides in and out it could be an issue. Also, I don't have a dark room with safe light for storing, developing, or printing wet plates.

Morning guys!

ugh, got a 3 hour long shift today. At least its early and I'll be off by 1130. Trying to avoid 8+ hours of overtime, so I reworked the schedule to split my 8 hours into both days.

Make it a good day y'all!

Darkroom! :D Good stuff Xander.

Kevin yes Ti bottles and G10 hardware. ...trying to figure out the hardware part :D

Yeah no drinking and grinding! To each his own but once I have a beer I'm out of the shop... I can't work! I can do other stuff though, lol!

I'm really excited about brewing the beer, it is my first batch since I started making knives! I used to be obsessed with beer design and enjoy the "design" part a lot... I used to brew one gallon mini batches just to try more new recipes I came up with. I'm done exploring design and just want to make a batch every other month or so...

Brewing as a hobby can be cheap... not too bad compared to some hobbies but like all you can spend as much as you want. It is a time consuming hobby . I'm doing all grain brewing so the finished product is inexpensive... 10$-20$ to make most 5 gal batches. You can get set up to extract brew for less than $100.

...the Strong Ale is bubbling away nicely! My yeast was 2 years out of date. :D

I got some wood in for magnetic kitchen knife racks, it is incredible! Curly Red Leaf Maple, Birdseye Maple and East Indian Rosewood... they are guitar fretboard blanks and almost too nice to use.

Nice! All around. I have a crappy magnetic knife rack that I need to toss in the bin. There is nothing on the face but the magnets and rails, and so they end up chipping my blades when they get put on too hastily. I hate having to grind them down every few months.

I think you could pull off G10 bottle caps pretty easily.
I am doing a little huffin' uh I mean scale gluing today.I will be able to shape the scales tomorrow then make the sheath and sharpen it up. This is the first time I epoxied scales on a knife.I always bolted them so I could remove the scales if I wanted to. Making something for sale, I do think it is a good idea to epoxy. I think the epoxy is needed to keep bacteria and gunk from building up under the scale. I just like to take things apart so I did not mind pulling the scales off and cleaning under them but I don't think it is something ather people want to deal with.
I hope y'all are having a good one !

Afternoon y'all!

Went to the flea market again today, all the same crap but there are a few vendors I look for secificall because they only go on Sundays. Nothing really worth buying, but I did get a new memory card for my D200 for $3. A $30+ card retail. Checked it out and wiped it clean with a format from the camera and its good to go!

Havin a(nother) beer, Newcastle Bombshell. Not great, not bad, but it does the job!

Good morning guys!

Xander nice score! I somehow missed the flea market for the season, we were going to sell some gear this weekend but had guests come down. We have one just South that runs all year too, I may have to check it, I bought my old buffer and first grinder there.

Kevin, try out West System G-Flex epoxy for scales, it is incredible.

Liamstrain, I'm excited about those kitchen knife racks. Mine will be just the wood visible with magnets hidden in the reverse. I decided to make one because I need one too, gotta keep those kitchen knives scary sharp!

Good morning Rolf!

Sbakker that sounds like a plan, I didn't know my beer was so good! I guess word has spread... :D

Good morning Farchyld!

Good morning guys! can't believe it's Monday already.:D

Wish y'all have a good one!

Another busy week coming up! Work, time with the wife, time spent remodeling the shop. Hopefully get electrical work done Saturday.

Daniel how are the knives coming along? We're suffering from pic withdraw!

Mornin fellas!

Spending my morning driving my mom around town as her car is in the body shop. She got in a hit and run last week. I swear she is a magnet for things like this!
