Just shined up my old, indestructible, Dutch-made boots. Ready to start riding the bike to work with this great weather 👍

I carry the Opinel to cut baguettes and cold meats; I love having it in my bag!

In my experience, they will lighten up slowly as they dry out. Keep reapplying that salve and they will get better and better with time and wear. Hard to beat a good pair of boots.

Certain oils/creams/conditioners darken, others dont. Just depends on what you want. Bick 4 is an extremely common one that doesnt darken at all, and i tend to use that most of the time.

its does a bit on oil tanned old town folklore top grain type leather. it will change the color a bit. not too bad though. ill take some pics tonight and show the difference it does....

That’s actually what mine are, JB, Old Town Folklore leather. 😎

here y'all go....these are 2 pairs of double h antons....as you can see the bick 4 treated by their instructions is a bit darker.....

ive used it on other types of leather had no real darkening...but this type of leather went darker. now im not a leather guy...maybe using it on this type was stupid? I dont know. they seem fine though...other than the darkening up.

Huh, that is pretty interesting. Genuinely the first time ive seen Bick 4 do that, its legit the go to recommendation for "generic, wont mess with the color, conditioner" 99/100 times anyone asks. At least it still looks good either way!

it is weird as ive used it on other boots like my justins and almost zero darkening. this one just soaked it in and went darker. I got to think it's the type of leather and its finish....but I am no leather expert guy. so im talkin out my rear.....

That looks like an almost exact match to mine, before and after. Thanks for the pics and info.

yeah they do. for your info......I did those about 1.5 maybe 2 years ago, once. they haven't faded back to lighter....other than where the leather gets bent from wearing. I like the color, so im good with it.....but other than maybe saddle soaping or other removal attempt of the treatment, and i dont know if that would work?....you're stuck with the darker color.

Out of curiosity, I contacted Double H and asked them for a recommendation for conditioner for their Old Town Folklore leather, and if it would darken the leather. Here was their response:

Hello Lance,

Thank you for contacting us with your inquiry. We do apologize but are unable to endorse any particular brand or product. And normally recommend a top-quality leather cleaner/conditioner. Since leather is porus, please know that applying any product may darken the leather. We advise testing a small hidden spot with any product first, to see if the results are what you are looking for.
 
Just heading out to the wasteland to scavenge a tank of juice. Hey, with gas prices what they are, you do what you gotta do.
