Knives and Boots

Ariat is my least favorite just because of the soles…. Have 2 pairs, 1 pair failing.

Tony Lama - 1 pair, perfect fit, most worn!

Lucchese - 2 pairs and fit great also

Rios of Mercedes- newest pair but I got sizing off a little and a little tight. Very nice pair.

Dan post, sizing was off so never got worn and gave to my brother.

Next pair more than likely be Rios as I like they’re colors.

Nigros western store in Kansas is a good place to shop. They’re an online store and great customer service.
Thanks for the research info my friend!

^ there is only like 1 place here in Tulsa that does them and I’ve tried for a month to get in contact with them. They’re never open. It’s a trade that is disappearing for sure.

They’re a pair or Ariats that had rubber and leather soles and the rubber is falling apart for some reason. I’ve tried glueing them several times but no luck.

Anyone know of an online place that still does them?

Found this on a Google search, make sure to read the “show more”.

I currently rotate 6 pairs of boots. Actually the sole is bad on 1 pair now so 5 pairs.

I’m a pharmacist and there is nothing more comfortable than cowboy boots standing for 8+ hours a day. Been doing that for 20+ years now.

I actually haven’t bought a new pair of boots since 2016 so what I have are going on 9+ years old.

Well now I’m looking for another pair since that sole is going bad.

A nice pair a boots will last years so got to figure that in when buying them and it makes the price not seem that bad.
Bushie out of California resolved a pair of my Ariat workkogs. They do great work. Currently, they have a pair of my Tony Lama to fix a piping heel.
They take 4 to 6 weeks but cheaper than a new pair of boots.

My favorite pair is my Nocona Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake. I can pin a bug in a corner with the toe on these boots. My feet prefer round toe boots.
Lucchese did not work for me. They are beautiful boots but not for me.
I have not heard of Nigros western store. I will check them out. I have two Boot Barns not far from me so they get my business. I have to try on the boots before I buy.

RLB0414 RLB0414 Thanks for info. I can only wear square toe boots. Have a very wide forefoot. I do however have an old pair of ariats that were made right and have lasted many years. My first real boot other than bass pro or something. They are round toe so they are strictly farm use as I’m usually only working in them for an hour or so.

My first pair I got from Nigro’s were too small and they gladly sent me the next size up I requested even before I had returned the first pair. Zero cost to me as well. Probably one of the few mom and pop stores left. I actually talked to one of the owners when I called for return.

My next pair is going to be some Rios. Love the history and the fact that they still make them the “old way”.

Come get some customs from ML Leddys in Fort Worth. Lot of people think they are the best around.

Anytime.
When to fit is right, cowboy boots are as if not more comfortable than tennis shoes to me. I was talking with a nurse in surgical recovery recently about his choice of footwear. Cowboy boots is what he wears. Says they are very comfortable, help his back and at the end of the shift his feet do not hurt. Knowing how much of his shift is spent on his feet, that says a lot.
Thanks for the Nigro's information.

These Ariats are very comfortable and fit great. They’re made with a full leather sole on the forefoot too so none of that mixed rubber and leather crap they put on some of their boots. Like what is falling apart on my other pair of Ariats.

Yes I may look at a custom pair now and see what they are running $$$. It’s time though as I have never had a full custom pair.

I have a distant buddy that all he gets are customs. The maker sends him some type of form that he puts his foot in and it confirms to his foot. Then he takes each side off and ships the form back in. Then like magic a custom pair of boots shows up on his doorstep.! No idea what these cost but I’m sure they aren’t cheap.

These are by far my favorite boot, but also the only pair of 100% custom boots I own. They're from JK, their customer service is awesome, only use full stitch down construction, and offer loads of customizations. They did, in the last year or so start making cowboy boots (not my style), and they look pretty sweet. They also do in-house rebuilding, from just a resole, through a full rebuild. Might check them out.

I love that bison! Been looking at picking up a pair. How's the fit?

Brother if you find out how much that service runs and where to contact I would be very interested. Thanks in advance.

Incredible - but as I stated, they are 100% custom - I have narrow/long feet, with narrow ankle/wide calf - so I did the full custom option. They have you send in quite a few measurements, when going this route. I had a stock pair of the same boots, but in their grey cow hide, it fit okay, but the uppers were not right, and the toe box was a bit too large. The buffalo leather is also extremely supple, and has required nearly zero break in, though the footbeds, being full leather, have required break in.

After working cattle yesterday....a lil dusty. Hyer boots:

Even brushed em off some for this shot. Didn't help much:

How are you liking the Hyers, Dave? Been thinking of trying a pair. Seen a lot of marketing around them lately. Been holding up as well as other off-the-shelf boots?

I like them a lot. They were a Bday present but I got them bout two weeks prior, so I’ve had them a little over a month.

Hyer claims to have invented the cowboy boot in 1873. To that I don’t know. We don’t call them cowboy boots btw, ya might hear em called riding boots in these parts but then we don’t wear “cowboy” hats either, just hats. Anyhoo, semantics.

I would say they are closer to custom boots, of which I’ve had multiple pairs, quality wise and build wise. I’ve been very impressed. I like how they fit in they are pretty tight at the throat and your foot makes an audible clunk when you pull them on. They fit your foot well and aren’t like wearing a pair of flip flops. The boot moves with your foot. They are a solid leather boot and so they conform to your foot better than others. The only man made parts are the top of the shelf on the spur shelf. They also use a heavy military type nylon for the pull loops, outside of that leather. Well and a rubber heel cap.

Fit wise they are pretty standard off the shelf deal. My left foot has more hardware than the Home Depot and that foot fits loose in a D width. But thats me not the boots. Other brands are the same. I fix this with an insole. Both feet fit well enough with lighter summer socks on right now but I still have room for heavier socks come time the weather changes. Mine have the 1 3/4” heel and I’m really digging this. High enough to work well in the stirrup but not so high as to hurt the old guys back walking around.

Dave, tight as in a fight to get your foot into the boot or just snug?
I tried two different styles of Tecovas and could not get my foot into the boot. Glad Tecovas has great customer service and took both pair back.
Thanks for the information on these boots

I have an old pair of Stewarts that sit in my closet since my feet have gotten larger by a size. I think they’re 124s in horse hide. Most comfortable boots I ever had. I remember wearing them out to the bar the day I got them. Six hours and just like slippers.
My son could fit in them now but refuses because they’re not “in style”. Shame.
