Whaddya think, did I find my next EDC flashlight?

It does have a carry sling after all 😁
I can't remember the last time I saw a flashlight online and instantly knew I had to have one, but one of the vintage tool channels I watch on YouTube recently featured the Rayovac sportsman searchlight and I was instantly obsessed with getting one.
They're not hard to find actually but condition for the money is a different story.
Especially one with the sling and both extensions so it'll take all 7 D batteries.

It may not showin the picture but I've got a 505 lumen led upgrade in it.

Well nobody can argue that the knife here is certainly traditional.

I'm not going to compain, but my original intention was for not only traditional knives but relatively traditional / conventional looking flashlights as well.
I understand though that most people no longer use the old chromies from Eveready and Rayovac...etc, and that so many flashlights being made today wouldn't look too out of place in the 70's or earlier.

I absolutely get it and I like you have many and appreciate the older flashlights of the past. I only have a few "pen" lights that are what I put into the "traditional/Vintage" catagory. As much as I love the old flashligths my brother has at least 50+ last count. Many of the vintage flashlights were D and C size battery ones, not all, but many.

Here's one the resides in my coffee cup, pen/pencil holder on my work desk. Unfortunately I don't carry it on a regular basis. I have a few more that I'll have to dig up and post here. Many flashlights here arent traditional speaking.

I don't expect to see many truly vintage flashlights, I just figured that like knives they'd be lights that wouldn't stand out too much at a glance.
For example most pen lights any Maglite ( except their 1 tactical model ), and just about any black or silver flashlight that doesn't look like a lightsaber handle could pass at a glance in the 1970's.

That's what I had hoped for, but it may have been a tall order and I completely understand that there's not necessarily such a thing as " traditional flashlights ".
There's basically just new flashlights and vintage flashlights.
I

I'd have specified vintage flashlights if I wasn't expecting to see flashlights people are actually using regularly.

These always remind me of the brass flashlights NASA used to use.
I love my brass AAA lumintop .
I bought the AA copper for my uncle a couple years ago because he was a plumber and he really loves it, he just retired and sold the business to his son but still carries the flashlight.

You just can't beat Maglites for affordable traditional looking flashlights.
Their LED models offer respectable performance, and the average person is very likely to be perfectly happy with them.
Heck I still like the old incan Maglites for looking inside carbs, and airgun tubes...etc because they aren't blinding like a bright LED light is.

Thank you, I completely agree.👍
